Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a trace of a khaki head that faded quickly. The aroma was tangy, malty and had light fruity hops - though a bit off. The flavor was bitter, sharp, roasty and dry with a tangy dry finish. Unimpressive.

Wild Goose xpa. Nice pale yellow streaming appearance. Fairly bitter taste even tho the aroma is only mild hops. Strongish overall with a flowery bitter aftertaste. S5L2F3T4o8

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine in Richmond, VA. Pours a clear reddish orange color with not much of an attempt at a head. Aroma is mainly pumpkin spice with some light pumpkin notes. Taste is straight up pumpkin spice with some malty notes. Bitter finish, but otherwise a bit too much on the sweet side. Thin bodied. Drinkable and fairly pleasant, but also boring and uncomplex.

Bottle. Clear amber golden pour with a foamy white head that leaves quickly. The nose is soapy, grassy with a hint of caramel and grain, almost more pilsner-like than IPA. But there is nothing lager-like in the flavor. It is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter and finishes moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. The texture turns sticky in the finish. There is an off-putting, perfume-like aftertaste. Overall, a bit of a mess. Unsatisfying.

Bottle. Just enough flavor to keep this drinkable, but not enough to make it more than good. Clear, light amber body with a small, bubbly head. The aroma is mostly malty with notes of grain, bread and a hint of caramel, lightly yeasty with hints of biscuit and and lightly hoppy with hints of grass. Medium body and watery texture. Lively carbonation. With the alcohol level a little above a session beer, this is nicely balanced and easy drinking.

Figures I haven’t rated it yet. I did not take very good notes. So I’ll just say this. We all know that Brimstone Big was a strong, sweet, soft barley wine with a big alcoholic finish. I had it fresh, I had it with a little age and having tasted it again recently I can confirm that it is still holding up well. It’s very soft, but also chewy. There is only minimal oxidation (wax cap). The malts are therefore still quite thick, but retain their brightness and smoothness. The alcohol, if anything, seems to be toned down a bit now. It’s still beautiful, if you’ve got any stashed away.

12oz bottle. Minimal, non-offensive odor. Deep brown chestnut color. Not quite opaque, but pretty close. Mellow dark malt flavors with a smooth sugary finish. Mild hop balancing, no real stand out characteristics. Very easy drinking with a pleasant body. Not as good as the Nut Brown Ale, hopefully not a replacement.

12 oz bottle courtesy of Suttree. Best before 25307FX stamped on the bottle. Pour is dark black, cloudy, with only faint ruby highlights. Nice two inch tan head falls leaving behind streaking lacing. Aroma of slight roasted malt, some coffee notes and milkiness. Taste is a roasted maltiness, gentle pine hoppiness, chalkiness and the silky oatmeal. Element of hazelnut present too. The after taste has some bitterness, and lingering milkiness. Some earthy tobacco in the finish as well. Palate is creamy, medium to full, mouth coating. Nice stout. 12 oz bottle courtesy of Suttree. Best if enjoyed before 05708FX stamped on bottle. Pour is cola brown, with a billowing tan head - 3 inches at least. Very frothy. Aroma of not much, some light black cherry, some hazelnut a bit a biscuit maltiness. Taste is pretty sharply sweet with a chemical cherriness, followed quickly by a dusty nuttiness. Finish has an almost tobacco taste to it. Palate is thin to medium, drinkable. Carbonation was a bit too active for my liking. Thanks for sending this, Phil.

12oz bottle. Coppery-amber color, filtered appearance. Heavy and deep spice aroma. The taste is similar, a very hearty and full pumpkin pie sweetness. Finish is rich and malty, with a lingering spicy sweetness. Better than your average pumpkin ale, worth a try if you are into the style.
