Description
Our story begins in 1805, when a local farmers co-operative formed to make cider at Norton Fitzwarren, just outside Taunton. In 1912 the business became The Taunton Cider Company Ltd. The company grew and grew over the years. By 1992 the company enjoyed a share of over 1/3 of the UK market, which itself had grown four fold, in no small part due to the Taunton Cider marketing drive.

In 1994 it was taken over by Matthew Clark plc. and production of all brands was transferred to their Shepton Mallett plant. The Norton Fitzwarren site finally closed in 1998. The Taunton Cider Company effectively disappeared until it was re-registered in 2015 by a group of cider enthusiasts. The first bottles of the re-born company rolled off the cider press in November 2016.

At Taunton Cider we pride ourselves on only using apples grown in traditional orchards within a 30 mile radius of our office in central Taunton, right in the heart of Somerset.

Bottle. Clear gold, brief fizzy head. Aroma has more of a fruity eating apple note compared to the dry cider version. However still has than apple skins and barnyard. Taste again quite fruity, light but with a funky barnyard element, sugars, semi-dry finish. Enjoyable light cider.

Bottle. Clear gold, brief fizzy head. Aroma of apple pith and skin, barnyard, light brown sugars. Taste has those notes but is a bit watery surprisingly. Dry, tangy but a low carbonation and thinness makes it a bit cardboard like although perfectly drinkable and refreshing. Shame.

Bottle shared by Shig with all the local cider dorks. Clear, pale gold, froth. Oaky, sticky, caramelized apple sauce nose. Tannic, watery, old floral, faintly sweet, creamy, old oak. Good contrast to the medium. Liked it.

Shared by Shig at his little cider get together. Clear, medium gold, half frothy. Watery, bittersweet, rounded, mellow apple nose. Easy, caramel-y, mellow acid, faint pith & veg, medium sweet apple, mellow wood astringency. Essence, tart florals, mild cherry pit. Low carb, quiet, consistent, refreshing. Good stuff.
