Description

Bottle, as Smokey BLND. Almost same label, same ABV. BLND was already brewed with smoked malt, so I believe they just updated the label with the tekst "smokey". Color: Slightly hazy golden, white head. Aroma: Malty, only very lightly hints of smoke. Taste: Malty, yeasty, hints of yellow fruit esters, subtle smokey, smoked fish. Hoppy backbone. Dry finish. Although the smoke is subtle, at certainly adds a flavour, making this brew a bit more interesting than a lot of standard Blonds.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with weak ruby shimmer and average, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, moderately lacing, tan head. Roasty, minimally grainy, oaty, malty aroma, a minimally lactic touch, some cocoa. Taste is bitter, roasty, dark malty, minimally oaty and lactic, hints of cocoa, dry cocoa.
Watery texture, slightly dry, almost a tad astringent palate, medium, prickly carbonation.
Disharmonious, heterogeneous, watery - not my cup of tea.

4/VIII/24 - 33cl bottle as a gift, shared @ my parents’ place, BB: 3/X/24 (2024-685) Thanks to Renno for the bottle!

Little cloudy gold blond beer, small creamy white head, a little stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: very yeasty, some ripe banana, very spicy, almost smoky, malty, rural impression. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty bitter start, a bit sourish, very malty, spicy, smoky touch, more spicy. Aftertaste: more smoky notes, malty, a bit medicinal, bitter finish, pretty decent! (The bottle was relabeled for a birthday party, only knew the name of the original beer, hence my surprise about the smoke.)

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 13 Aug 2023) Golden colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, slightly smoky nose with notes of grass, herbs, hay and mixed fruit. Fruity, hoppy taste with bread, grass, citrus and a balanced herbal bitterness in a finish with a mild smoky touch. Medium body, quite dry. Interesting, with a mild, but surprising, smoky touch. Quite enjoyable.

Greyish pink-purple head, huge and dense, ultra-stable over ripe blackberry-coloured beer. Spicy nose. Probably the elderberries, but smelling curiously and strongly as coriander. Bitter flavour, aroma as from shoepolish (that is typically elderberry), and yet again coriander. Fruity, but in a strangem wry way. Finish is even a tad astringent. Iron in the head! Fruit filled feels better bodied than the 5.4% would warrant. Head retention is questionable. No, no improvement for Barbier, alas.

Small off-white head; fully hazy orange-amber beer. Sweet, syrupy, candi sugar, bit herbal, weeds, marzipan. Sweet-herbal. Bit bready. Again marzipan, very outspoken, with an ending of bitter almonds. Way too sweet overall. Also syrupy feel, despite good carbonation. At least medium bodied. Hmmpf. Superfluous.

Thick lightly yellow head, pitting in over well-carbonated orangey yellow beer. Weyish nose, diary, wheat; dry and hints @ white pepper; citruspeel. Dry, with a creamy flavour & feel from the head. Serious alcoholburn, sweet & drier malts; again citruspeel. Medium bodied at least, wheatslickness. OK.

0.33 l bottle from 'Ace Drinks', best before March 2020. Clear, very dark ruby to black with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, hardly roasty and gently fruity aroma of raisins, prunes and caramel. Quite sweet, malty, moderately roasty and slightly fruity taste of caramel, coffee, cocoa and dark fruits, followed by a short, gently roasty-bitter, slightly earthy-dry finish. Medium body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Pleasant Stout, could have a bit more roast.
