Thick, dense yellow head, fed by fine carbonation in orangey copper beer. Smoked, phenolic, hint at orangepeel, mineral. Less phenolic in the mouth, more mineral, meaty esters. Smoked, but not really peaty. Some oils, also oily feel, and a corresponding oily-fatty sweetness. At least medium bodied, good carbonation, bit chewy viscous. Nowhere bad, but I wonder if the goal was really that phenolic - and how it got there.

Very huge, pitting-in beige head slightly irregular, over deep dark cola-coloured beer. Roasted, roasted grains nose, sweet dark caramel, hints at warm (wholemeal) breadcrust, leaves or holly, bit gassy, and finally iron, ironoxyde. Faintly, but clearly, mineral component. Dry roast with a sweeter maltunderbuild, and finishing burnt-bitterish, at least at first. It's the head that contains the iron... how? Makes me always suspicious. Gradually, I get hay-like flavours overcoming the roast, that is in fact not very heavy-handed, and finally nearly fruity, near vinous yeast hints. Medium bodied, bit sticky, chewy; good carbonation. Aftertaste is lacking a tad in boldness. Acceptable stout, if not very Irish in interpretation. I can live with this, even if, given blindly, I would have guessed a top-fermented attempt at Dunkelbock. The most strange thing, however, is that with a bit more acidity, it would not get more stout-ish, but nearing cola...

Bottle @ De Korenbeurs, Hulst. Brewed by Brouwerij De Kip, Ossenisse, with a part (saline) water from the Oosterschelde. Pours a copper-brown colour, slightly hazy, and an big, dense off-white head with good retention. Aroma's: caramel malts mainly. Retronasal there's additional saltiness. Flavour is moderate swet with some salt. Medium bodied. Long finish, with saltiness retaining and light bitterness. A bit weird, but OK.

Bottle from Benzai in Euro Swap #1. Pours very dark brown with a lasting egg shell white head. Dry, roasted with rye bread, some bitter chocolate, a touch of iron, touch of vanilla, also lightly smoked ham on the nose. Dry, bitter, roasty finish. Good enough.

Fles gekregen van Inoven. Thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een donkerbruin bier met een beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van gebrande mout en koffie. De smaak is gebrand en chocolade achtig. Het lijkt wat stroperig op de lippen.

Bottle @ Knipcafé de Barbier, Ouwerkerk. Rather clear orange colour, white foam. Sweet, estery, notes of banana, also some citrus. Light bitter finish. Not a bad one.

Flesje gedeeld door Benzai. Diep donkerbruin helder bier met beige schuim. Aroma van gebrande mout en koffie. Smaak van koffie, droge mout, chocolade. Chocolade smaak blijft even hangen voor de rest ebt de smaak snel weg.

Bottle @ home shared with Inoven. Almost completely unclear dark brown color, medium sized beige / tan head that lasts for a decent while and leaves fair lacing. Aroma is malts, a bit dry and earthy. Flavor is similar at first take: malts, dry, earthy dark malts. Dark malt bitter with a slight distant hint of cocoa powder. Quite nice.
