Description
The Humblet family was in search of a site to build a new brewery & continue their tradition and long list of beers brewed by their father, Benoit Humblet.
In 2011, they discovered the farm of Bertinchamps, dating back to 1343, situated not far from Gembloux.

Although extremely old and decayed, the farm had stunning character, situated in an environment that equals its prestige. It was time for some rejuvenation and the renovation project began immediately. Almost 2 years of remarkable work and finally in March 2013 the brewing system was installed in the old barns. Ultra modern fermentation tanks of a capacity of 6.000HL, an astonishing contrast of modern technology and the farm dating back more than 7 centuries.

33cl bottle from FreshMed supermarket Etterbeek, Brussels. F: medium, off-white, quick gone. C: pale gold, milky hazy. A: peach, pear, bit caramel, something like funky touch. T: light body, peach, pear, quite nice balanced bitterness, may be the aroma is because of Pichia kluyveri yeast but beside this not so bad for the style.

Bottled. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, nectary, spicy and some slight toffee notes. Flavour is very sweet citrus and fruits with some sweet malts as well as a mild spicy touch to it. Also a bit witbier like yeasty spiciness, but not dry at all, rather being very sweet.

26/X/22 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ Syntra Zytho class (Ghent), BB: 30/XI/22 (2022-1419)

Clear light blond beer, small creamy dense white head, stable, a bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of hop going on here, marijuana, grassy and floral notes, a bit fruity, in the back there’s a light malt aroma present with some caramel notes. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: a little sweet, malty, some caramel, sugary, not very bitter, rather a bit sourish which is surprising. Aftertaste: malty, grains, hay, some cow fodder, sourish, lemony, a little infected maybe?

Huge orangeish tinted head, dense & stable over well-carbonated, cold hazed orange-golden beer. Heavily spice nose with clove, allspice, lavender, almost camphor-like. Bitter-spicy. Gives a slight smoked impression. Again clove & lavender, orangepeel, but also pine & resin, lending a woody bitterness, as biting in pine needles. Rather well-bodied, gristslick, good carbonation. Spice flavours keep going on for long. I definitely don't like the nose, the problem being overspicing - or nearly so. Des Guten zuviel - almost.
