Bottle split at the Pig’s Ear Cellar, Richmond, 29/06/13. Hazed dark amber with a medium sized beige head. Nose is light hops, caramel, fruits. Taste comprises bitter orange, caramel, light tartness to the fruit notes, bready malts, light hops. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, bitterness in the finish. Solid enough stuff!

Draught @ Holborn Whippet, 25-29 Sicilian Avenue, Holborn, Greater London England WC1A 2QH.Clear dark black brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to beige head. Aroma is heavy malty, chocolate, moderate to heavy roasted, earthy, moldy - fusty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, cewer, chocolate, moldy - fusty, earthy. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20130118]

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Whole Foods Kensington. Pours mostly clear gold, lightly effervescent, with a creamy white head. The aroma holds melon, lemon merengue, sweet pale bready malts. Big sweet flavor with a veritable menagerie of fruits, some tropical fruits, some juicy citrus, bubblegum, lots of melon, hints of cheese, light bitter pine and citrus rind. Full bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Lightly warming finish with some resinous pine, sticky ripening citrus and tropical fruits, papaya and melon, light pine needles, white bread. Tasty but not an especially delicate beer.

Cask at Lyric, Soho. It pours clear yellow with a small white head. The nose is earth, hay, straw, sweet soft fruits, pithy citrus and lemonade. The taste is assertively bitter, straw, hay, grapefruit, pithy lemon, zesty, white grape, earth and pepper with a lingering bitter-dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty damn bitter and dry. Decent stuff.

Bottle, 13C. Bright gold with a small white head that doesn’t last long. Aroma of oranges, resin, peach and hay. Very low carbonation. Sweet at first - Opal Fruits!, then lots of bitter oranges. Finishes towards dry with lingering bitter oranges and . An odd beer that grew on me - it seems a bit thin and lacking a real malt presence at first, then the way the sweet fruits lead into the bitter finish starts to cohere. A little bit of retsina about it.

Cask handpump at the Rann Wartha (Wetherspoons) pub, St Austell, Cornwall. Dark amber colour, with a creamy pale cream coloured head. Frutiy and malty, with a caramel aroma, medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, and slightly bitter finish.

Bottle at home in London - procured at Whole Foods Kensington. Pours clear, light golden-brown with a moderate, frothy off-white head. Aroma carries off lots of ripening orange, some toasty and bready malts, hints of supple pine. Light to medium sweet flavor, moderately bitter, more toasty bread, some light earth, toasted pine and grass, bits of orange and grapefruit. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Pretty crisp on the finish with more of the same: toasty malts, orangey citrus, toasty grass and pine. A really solid sessioner. A nicely hopped brown ale.
