An old local beer from the German city of Potsdam, which apparently has existed in some or other form since the 19th century but went extinct in the seventies; revived by Forsthaus Templin, but as usual with this kind of 'historic' beers which have existed for generations in name only, I doubt if this one even comes close to the original 19th century Weizenbier (of some sort) that it must have been. Anyway, I love a good classic German beer from time to time, so huge thanks to Herr Christian Mai for these lovely swingtop bottles! Very thick and foamy, egg-white, dense and firm, very stable closed head leaving thick and sticky lacing on the edge of the glass; misty straw blonde robe with warmer apricot tinge. Aroma of melting margarine, fresh white bread dough, sweetclover, cream corn (even if obviously no corn has been used), red apple peel, rusk, unripe Conference pear, minerals as in mineral-rich sparkling water, hints of wet kitchen towels, biscuit crumbs, white soap, hint of Kellog's Honey Pops, even a clear and lingering odour of ripe banana. Rounded, smooth onset, clean but with some fruitiness from the yeast, green banana and green pear notes, sweetish with a light sourish undertone accentuated by lively, minerally, initially somewhat stinging carbonation; soft, almost 'fluffy' body, smooth and feeling rather full for its ABV - again thanks to the floating yeast suspension. Nice white-bread-'pulpy' and fully cereally maltiness with a clear soapy edge from the Weizenmalz, which accounts for a soft of 'deep' sourishness underneath as well; bready yeasty effects build up a bit in the finish, but the wheat malt soapiness remains stronger, eventually softly but confidently bittered by floral noble hops, with slight grassy and spicy side effects as well. Minerally, softly wheaty-soapy, fluffy, quenching finish, this is the kind of beer I could drink gallons of, classic and traditional as it may be; in terms of style, close to a Hefeweizen of course, but a bit less phenolic and more hop bitter, so if it must be a Weizen of some sort, it is at least a very atypical one with heavy Landbier- or even Pilsener-like influences, which in itself is interesting considering the usually very conservative nature of traditional German beer culture, especially in the north. Enjoyed it.

Nasmaak is iets bitter.

Bottle recieved with Euro Swap 3 2019, many thanks to Rauchbierlover! Bottle shared with Inoven, Benzai en Keukeman. It is a slightly hazy golden beer with a nice white head. It has a nice citrussy and jeasty nose. The taste is malty and slightly sweet and sour.
