500 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 4/2018. Pours slightly hazy medium orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap the lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart lemon, berries, red grape, green apple, white wine, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, light caramel, toasted bread, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, Shiraz grape, and light-moderate malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, berries, red grape, green apple, white wine, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, light caramel, toasted bread, and yeast/oak earthiness. Good amount of yeast/tannic oak bitter/spiciness and moderate tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of tart lemon, berries, red grape, green apple, white wine, peppercorn, oak, hay, straw, leather, musty funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish or a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, Shiraz grape, and light-moderate malt flavors; with a good malt/tart/bitter/spiciness balance; with some light lingering astringency from tannic bitterness after the finish. Moderate dryness from tart/bitter/tannin/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a smooth, tannic, sticky, and lightly acidic/grainy mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.7%. Overall this is a great fruited Lambic style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast, oak barrel, Shiraz grape, and light-moderate malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the lingering tannic astringency. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle from Boise Co-op. After a disappointing go around with their Kriek, it’s nice to have this spot on gose. Up front saltiness from the seawater. Hazy golden body with short, tight head. The pepper is evident in the aroma. A bit of a sea breeze as well can be detected. Salt takes over in the taste , right on style. Nice mouth feel, with some dryness coming in very late. Well done.

Bottle from Brewer’s Haven. Light golden color with a thin white head. Herbal aroma is floral and spicy; the salt and pepper are both prevalent. The flavor is good, but a little too herbal for my taste. Again I get the salt and pepper, but the coriander is heavy. Finishes crisp and it does have the thirst quenching aspect that I like in a gose, but I could do with less florals.

Bottle from Brewer’s Haven. Reddish pour with a little bit of white bubbly head. Smells of musty fruit, pie cherries, yeast and malt. Taste is again on the musty side, a little sour cherry, and yeast. A little earthy overall and toned down on the fruit aspect.

1 pint bottle into pint glass. Sweet woody BBQ sauce nose. Still copper coloured beer with thin white head. Full body, oily texture. Zingy on the tongue. Taste of sweet liquorice and herbs. Finish has maple syrup, wood, dark fruits. Alcohol well hidden. Smoky notes linger in the mouth for ages. Great contemplative beer, just sip and think.

500 ml bottle from Sparrow. First off, love the up shit's kriek without a paddle joke , kinda genius. It puts a dark reddish-purple colour with a white head. The aroma is tart cherries, dough, grains, and yeast. Similar flavor, tart, yeasty. Average to lively carbonation. An alright kriek.

500ml bottle into shaker. Earthy hoppy nose with orange rind obvious, a little chocolate malt in the background. Very dark brown with thin solid foamy head. Medium bodied with a little zing on the tongue. Taste is crisp and bitter. Finish is grainy and dry with the orange zest becoming more prominent. Beautifully balanced beer with the bitterness of the hops and the rye graininess complemented by the light tangy sweetness of the orange. Can’t find any chillies though.
