Description
The Exchange is a new premium brewery and tasting room located in Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Old Town heritage district. Although the town is known as the heart of Ontario’s wine country, it is also the scene of a burgeoning craft-brewing industry. With brewing and agricultural roots that stretch back to the late 1700s, Niagara-on-the-Lake is the perfect home for The Exchange’s approach to brewing, which blends traditional and modern techniques and equipment.

We focus on making exceptional craft beers using only the highest quality ingredients, including local Niagara fruits. Our selection includes a range of American styles along with sour and funky Belgian-style beers and ales.

Hazy yellow pour, with a big white head. Aroma is quite funky. Hints of tequila, wood and alot of lemon zest. The coriander is there, adding big lemon notes, hint or orange and the pomegranate add a all around sweetness. The barrel is adding some nice funk, but the finish has zero tartness. Actually the finish is incredibly dull. It’s very dry, has barely anything going on, it’s quite odd. Carb and mouth feel are really pleasant and refreshing. The slightest of lactic tart notes in the end with a touch of corriander and slight lemon oil. Very interesting brew.

Bottle from the LCBO.
Pours a hazy yellow, with a large white head. Aroma is bretty, and there are hints of funk. Solid wheat aromas, with a zippy, zesty lemon edge, and some bright green hop cones. mouth feel and carb are very nice, and on the lively side. The finish is medium bitter, more zesty lemon notes, can't really find the red wine barrel at all, and same goes for the rye of the peppercorns. Maybe there is the slightest hint of spice in the end from the rye, but really its tough to find. overall a nice saison, but i cant find any of these other flavourings.

On tap at the source. Clear copper pour, with a medium white head. Aroma is obviously grapefruit, but it's subdued, with a soft sweetness, and some lemon zest added in. Mouth fee is soft, and the carb is the same. Finish is medium bitter, with a floral grapefruit zestiness, and oil. Solid pithiness, and overall this is one of the best grapefruit beers i've had. The flavor is very authentic, and doesn't smack of artificial flavorings.

Bottle from the brewery. Black pour, medium mocha head. Big roast, lots of bitter cocoa powder, light milk chocolate, ground coffee. Mouth feel is silky, carb is soft. Finish is medium to highly bitter, loads of cocoa, and coffee with light licorice and soy in the end.

On tap at the source. Clear to slightly hazy brownish/redish pour, with a tiny off white head. Aroma is tart berries, and strong balsamic vinegar. Mouth feel is thin, and a bit oily, with a light carb. Finish is tart, bordering on sour, vinegar, and lactic notes abound. Light cherry, and maybe some raspberry. it's well made, just not a pleasurable style for me.
