Tasting at Matt's, can
Dark mahogany colour, large beige head. The aroma is malty, some esters and perfume. Good body, sweet, the malt is decent, the yeast is a bit more perfumy than spicy; well, overall this is a pretty good beer, especially for Mexico.

16oz (thx, Ryan!) shared with Phill and the gang @ Matt's new place. Appearance: copper with a tan head. Aroma: some Belgian esters, candy sugar, some sweetness, and dark fruits. Taste: along the same lines. Finishes with some strange bitterness. Overall: ok.

Poured from 473mL can (thanks Travis). Clear chestnut brown with small light beige head. Some mild Belgian yeast, feint phenolic note (low enough to get past, but still there), slightly above average.

473mL can, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted caramel, Belgian yeast, bready malt, and some sugars. Flavour has a nice Belgian yeast expression, with toasted caramel, toasted bready malt, and a touch of sugars. Not the most authentic, but it does have a nice yeast expression. Pleasant.

Pours deep dark brown with light beige head. Aroma has notes of toasted malts and pine. Flavour was quite earthy; grassy and herbal notes with a toasted malt backbone. Really nice.

Poured from 473mL can (thanks Travis; abv on can listed as 6.5%). Dark chestnut brown with small off white head. Bready toasted malt, little to no hops (very feint pine on the finish), comes off as more of a dark lager. Okay. (Would have rated it higher as a dark lager, but as a black IPA, it needs more hops - maybe re-market it?)

473mL can, pours a clear brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is very faint, with toasted malt, subdued hops, and a hint of toasted caramel. Flavour is fairly toasty, with subdued roasted -- more like toasted -- malt, very deficient hops, and some earthiness. Pretty light, but correctly constructed and reasonably balanced. Timid, but decent.
