On tap @ Café de Paas, Den Haag/The Hague. This is one of my long time favourites. Dark reddish brown colour, creamy beige head. Aroma of yeast, a bit musty, chocolate. Taste is dark grain, some chocolate, raisins, a little sour. What makes this really good is the lack of sweetness and the rather thick mouthfeel. Tastes even less sweet from the bottle, however, I prefer it from tap. Imho the best dubbel there is.

Bottle. Hazy yellow-orange color with a medium head. Yeasty aroma with notes of stone fruit and spice. Grassy, fruity taste with a hint of caramel. Very dry, lively effervescence. Medium body.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Golden yellow colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, fresh, grassy nose with pears and green apples. Malty, grassy taste with fruity hints of apples. Spicy, almost metallic bitterness in a dry finish. Superbly balanced (even more so than the other Westmalle beers). Rather thin body, fairly dry. Very nice beer.

Bottle, thx to fonefan. It pours a golden-yellowish body, some microfloaties, topped by a dense, white head. Rather hoppy aroma with a good fruityness, on a grainy, pale-malty background. Surprisingly hoppy and flavorful for a small trappist beer. Fruity, piney and citrusy, and quite bitter. Full to medium, rather dry mouthfeel. Long, bitter and hoppy finish. A really good one, especially considering it being one of the small trappists, still I’m having difficulties giving it a score higher than the others. Rerate wanted. (080412)

33cl bottle, superbest. good aroma, looks nice with sizable white head, strong solid taste. some soapy undertones (or not - i’ve been cleaning my old apartment for hours, perhaps it’s me who smells like soap), average to good palate, Overall a nice beer, but i sort of miss something to get really excited about. After it had heated up a bit it got markedly better, so i adusted palate and overall. 8-14 celc. is indeed the range.

Draught, Amsterdam. Had forgotten just how good this is! Deep dark brown colour with a decent off white head. Malty fruity aroma. Very smooth, flavour is more malt and fruit fruit. Wanted another straight away which is always a good sign. Think this is the best of the Westmalle beers.
