Deep slightly hazy amber coloured body with a copper glow and a bronze tint all with a nice two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of pungent and resiny hops, pineapple, pine, alcohol, toffee and a bit of yeast. Medium-bodied; Assertive grassy and herbal hoppiness up front with a deep yeast and honey finish. Aftertaste shows a good resiny note, some pineapple sweetness and a hint of toffee. Overall, a nice and pungent IPA with more of a well-rounded flavour with a good balance of hops and malt and less of a hop bomb. A nice beer that is worth trying if you can find it. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Super Jr Market (DamnGoodBeer Store) in San Diego, California on 06-May-2012 for US$6.49 sampled at home in Washington on 24-July-2012.

Draught at Baileys Taproom, Portland as "Caldera Old Growth" (8,8%)
Aroma is really nice with roasted malt, coffee and chocolate.Flavour is dry with roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and somewhat salty licorice. Smooth and very creamy palate that becomes sticky after some sips. The coffee notes get stronger towards the dry finish. A masterpiece, reminds me of Nøgne Ø Imperial Stout.
65 cl bottle (8,8%) @ home
Salty licorice, coffee, dark chocolate. Saltiness is too strong in this one, unfortunately.

Can. Darkish amber with a large white head that sticks around. Aroma of grapefruit, caramel, a little kumquat, pineapple. Smells oddly empty like a garnish alone on a plate. But there is something under the aromatic hops, albeit fairly plain caramel and not much of that. Lots of citrus zest, herbs, pine, some grapes. Bitterness at the end is about enough. Watery, vacant palate. Not my sort of thing at all.
