Sample @ Stockholm Beer & Whisky 2012. Pours very dark brown, almost black, with a small dark mocha head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with lots and lots of chocoalte combined with vanilla fudge, toffee, toasted malts, wood, roasted coconut, burnt cookies, brownies and chocolate pudding. Taste is sweet and bitter with roasted malts, cocoa powder, wood, dark roast coffee, brownies, milk chocolate, roasted coconut, resin, burnt cookies, vanilla fudge and hints of pine. Mouthfeel is smooth, round, tiny watery and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with roasted malts, bitter chocolate, sweetened dark roast coffee, wood and hints of lemon zest. Solid chocolate and vanilla bomb that I expected more from.

Draught at Tadg’s. Nose of chocolate, caramel, light fruits, something peppery. Flavor similar. Not a whole lot of bold malts as you would expect in a brown, not too sweet, a bit spicy and peppery, though I was not told it was hemp in it, and would never have guessed. Maybe a touch of refer in the nose after being told. Decent, but not that special.

A dark reddish copper ale with a thick collapsing mocha head. In aroma, sweet candy sugar, very Belgian, with fruity esters and warming alcohol, light cardamom. In mouth, a sweet caramel with burned orange peels, coriander, light molasses, alcohol warmth, a bit thin. Tasted with GRM on August 28, 2012.

Super rich, almost fully opaque deep brown coloured body with a rich one centimetre tall deep brown head - very nice looking. Aroma of tons of roast, coffee, milk chocolate (40% cacao), a bunch of lactic notes and a hint of graham crackers. Full-bodied; Super dense mouthful of chocolate and coffee with a bunch of pit fruits, caramel and toffee. Aftertaste is quite potent with a bunch of earthiness, some nuts and a lot of darkly (think Starbucks) roasted coffee with perhaps even some peat or smoked notes. Overall, a seeming super potent and pungent flavoured and feeling beer with less alcohol (my bottle is 8.8%) than assumed. Definitely a nice Imperial Stout, but the large format bottle and the heavy feel make it quite the bear to drink. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tustin, California on 06-December-2011 for US$9.99 sampled at home in Washington on 31-August-2012.

Draught. Red brown with white head. Smokey light aroma, pleasant. Flavour is smoked malt, did not seem that ’intense. but the smoke is there. Smoke finish that lasts a long time. They did not stint the wood

22 oz. bottle, pours a clear golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of some herbal hops, dry citrus hops and barely detectable biscuity malt to back. Flavour is very, very dry hoppy, some herbal notes, and dry rye bread. Very, very dry and astringent. Quite unbalanced and barely drinkable due to the intense astringency. OK.
