Description
In 1865, William Moorhouse, a local Burnley lad, founded the brewery. He took great pride in his home town and his craft, originally producing mineral waters. In 1870, he built his own brewery, producing renowned beers, including his low alcohol Hop Bitters for the temperance bars across the North West.

Rejuvenation
Hard times hit in 1985 and Bill Parkinson, a local man passionate about beer, was sipping a pint of Pendle Witches Brew one day, when he heard of the plight of the brewery. He bought it, invested in a new brew plant and the rest is history. With many twists and turns along the way, we have embraced the traditions, values and entrepreneurial spirit of our founder ready for exciting times ahead.

2026 Clitheroe Beer Festival #15. Workable indigenous pale ale, crisp easy, likeable without huge flavours beyond its pleasant hops. Creamyish.

I'll be in Moorhouses territory tomorrow for the Clitheroe Beer Festival - and this golden warm up brew is a regular tasting hoppy session cask pull. Quite average, hoping for better from them tomorrow.

Amazingly this is the first review for NINE YEARS of the cask version of one of the country’s top milds. I’ve drunk it several times in the past (and surely more recently than that) but this time it was Cask at Petersgate Tap, Stockport. Pours almost black with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. The aroma has chocolate malts and a hint of blackberries. In the mouth it is sweet and creamy but with a little underlying bitterness. Flavours start with malts and dark fruits and expand into milk chocolate and a hint of biscuits later on leading to a fairly fruity finish. This is decent and lives up to its reputation.

Cask at JDW Mossy Well. Deep amber colour with a creamy white head. Taste has notes of toffee and dates with hints of grass and autumn leaves. Good mouthfeel and a long, fruity aftertaste. A nice ESB.

Wigan Beer Festival 2026, Beer#8. It couldn't be more aptly named. More hoppy than fruity in taste from its single hop.

Cask at The Northern Way, Preston. Pours clear amber with a thick cream-coloured head. Aromas of dark fruit and toffee, something mixed dried herb. Taste is more of the same. Light bitter finish. Not the best condition.
