Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.
Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Cask, Rigby’s, Liverpool. Not the typical pump clip you’d expect to see, but that’s definitely to its credit. A dark gold colour with a smallish white head. Plenty of fruit and hop in the nose and flavour with a sturdy malt spine.. All very tidily proportioned. Drinkable as ever from this stable...now where de Lamb’s Bread at ??!

[Cask in the Three Guineas, Reading] Peachy gold, moderate white head, slight carbonation. Fruity aroma leads into a light lemon & biscuit flavour. Moderate hop bitterness makes it pleasingly refreshing. Decent.

Cask handpull at The Fly in the Loaf, Liverpool. Gold, lasting off white head. Some grapefruity US hop in here. Verges on the sweaty but reigns it back. Love the grapefruit on the finish.
