Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.

Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Cask Conditioned at The Castle, Furnival St., London
Hazy blond color, small head. It’s a mild Golden Ale, with a light grassy aroma, round body, a bit sweet. Pleasant, yet easy.

Hazy blond color. Very nice aroma of English hops, fruity too. Even at this low alcohol, it has a good mouthfeel, with good malt flavor and very good hopping, flowery (a light presence of elderflower comes to mind). Long final. One of the best cask ales in London this week. Excellent.

Cask, handpump at the Woolpack, Banbury, Oxon 20-12-08 Pours mid brown, but tricky to be exact in the light. Hops show on the nose and nicely bitter, some winter spices are present and finishes a little drying. Decent beer. A6 A4 F7 P4 OV14 3.5

[Cask at the Briar Rose, Birmingham.] Gold with a thin white head, leaving good lacing - aroma of peaches and apricots - sweet apricot fruit flavours to start, then developing a sharp grapefruit bitterness that masks the alcohol well.

Cask handpull at Market Porter. Gold, floral hop, bit of tea in flavour, bit too sweaty sox for me. Good but a bit thin, but good hop.

Cask-conditioned at a JDW in Swindon 30/10/08. Gold with next to no head. Hoppy aroma and flavour of citrus, with a whiff of pine and spiciness giving way to a decent bitter finish. Good stuff.

Cask at The Regal, JDW, Cambridge, 11-10-08 Straw coloured, (light was very dim so might not be totally correct) Good tang to this beer, nice soft lemonyness, furry bitterness ripples across the roof of mouth.
