Hazy and cloudy brown coloured body with a thinish tan head. Aroma of apples, corn, malt, sugar and a tad of spice. Medium-bodied; Assertive fruits, malt and a bit of alcohol coming out immediately. Gives way to a pungent effervescence showing some sour notes, but mostly strong malty flavours with sweetness and alcohol. Overall, a potent and complex beer - with more malt and fruit notes than yeastie & light flavours. Great to try, I’m definitely happy I picked this up! I sampled this 33 cL swing-top bottle (best by 26-june-2010) purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 17-November-2008, sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 28-February-2009.

Fles 33cl thuis. Zoetig, volle smaak, Kasteelbierachtig, niet echt mijn ding. (2-2009).

Bottle picked up at Westholme Londis Stores, Goring on Thames, Oxon consumed 16-06-08 Reddy brown with large off white head, I like the commercial description I reckon that whoever penned that must have had about half a dozen of these before putting pen to paper. toffee, rich christmas cake fruitiness, alcohol is very much in evidence, very malty, some brandy soaked bananaeyness is there, I liked this.

33 cL bottle. Pours hazy brown, golden, and with a slowly collapsing light tan head. Malt dense and fruity aroma with a light yeasty spice note. Flavour holds a mild overripe fruity note to a nice and solid caramel malt flavour and a light yeasty spice note. Yeasty, malty and towards light bitter finish. Nice one.

Bottle, 33cl swing top. Except for the sediments in the bottle, it was a clear, reddish-brown beer, with a small, beige head. Some sweetness in the aroma, as well as dried fruits, but it was a rather boring one, considering it’s high alcohol and origin. Sweet flavor with dried fruits and alcohol. Maybe a bit one-tracked, but I like it. The alcohol were present in the finish too, but well hidden, overpowered by caramel and roasted malt. Full-bodied, quite effervescent. I prefer it’s sister Boerinneken, but this one’s good too. (080112)

Bottle, 33cl swing top. Pours a clear, except for floaties, golden body with a small, white head. There’s lots of sediments in the bottle. Sweetness, citrus, tea and spices in the aroma, quite lovely. In the mouth there’s warming alcohol, sugary sweetness, pale malt, hops and some grains, and it finishes with pale malt and citrusy hops. Full, warming mouthfeel. Better than it’s brother, but not much. (080112)
