Cask @ Smithfield Market Tavern, Manchester. Black with a small off-white head. Keg @ Smithfield Market Tavern, Manchester. Very dark red with a soapy-piney aroma and taste and a bitter finish in this respect with some red berry influence.

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. Pours a dark chestnut with a small foamy cream head. In the nose there are roast malts and a hint of vanilla. Malts still to the fore in the mouth along with liquorice, some dark fruits and traces of toffee. A little hoppiness can be detected after a while. Itโs OK โ nothing to write home about.

Cask at Brewery Tap, Chester. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. Thereโs roasted malts in the aroma, plus a hint of chocolate. In the mouth malts again are to the fore, together with liquorice, a few hops, and some chocolate and caramel lurking underneath. Some bitterness comes through at the finish. Quite a reasonable stout.
