Southwark Brewing Company
Microbrewery
in Bermondsey,
Greater London,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Southwark Brewing Company
Established in 2014
Over 6 years, we have seen a lot of change and development. The brewery now has 6 fermenting vessels up from the 3 original ones, including a 20 Barrel FV commissioned in February 2020, in advance of a BIG sales drive (that wasn't well timed....)
We have brewed over 100 different beers and we have enjoyed every single one and there are a lot more to come.
Their keg range appears under the name 'Big Bear Brewery'.

Cask at the brewery, during my 40th bash, 11/10/14. Lightly hazed golden with a decent off white covering. Nose is orange wine gums, straw, light spice, bready tinge. Taste comprises much the same, earthy bitter citrics, bitter orange. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. Looks and feels good but lacks somewhat at the business end.

Cask gravity at the brewery. It pours clear golden with minimal head. The nose is earthy, resin, wood, astringency, straw, hay, barnyard and glue. The taste is raw bitterness, punchy, booze, resin, wood, solvent/glue action, oily, hay, earth and plastic. Medium body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Pretty rough stuff. Odd glue thing going on. Jeebus.

Cask at the brewery. It pours lightly hazy gold with a decent white head. The nose is soft, porridge, grainy, cereal and mild acidity. The taste is raw bitterness, lemon peel, orange rind, pepper, straw, grain, cereal and biscuit. Medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty raw. Almost astringent.

Cask at the brewery. It pours pale gold with a medium white head. The nose is soft, doughy, stone fruit, lemony citrus, muffin and cereal. The taste is soft, generic pale malt, grain, crisp bitterness, straw and lemon rind within a dry finish. Soft and drinkable. Easy drinking, but no wow factor.

Cask at the brewery during my 40th bash, 11/10/14. Clear golden with a well appointed white head. Nose is lemon rind, straw, bread dough, light spice. Taste comprises lemon rind, straw, astringent bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with light grassy hop bitterness. Ok, a little raw and overly bitter.
