Bottle, bought mid summer in a Sainsburys in Somerset. Color: Clear ambet, off-white head. Aroma: Malty, fruity (must be the plum, although I don't recognise it instantly) Taste: Fruity plum, malty, some bread and some caramel, floral hop backbone. Medium body, just below average carbonation. Moderate sweetness, very light bitterness. Mwah... Not my kind of beer.

Chose this one tonight as I thought the heated version would be quite medicinal after almost getting over a very dry cough of the last couple of days. I wasn't wrong, this pale golden coloured cider when warm does feel palate-friendly against a palate-unfriendly virus. It's sweet and full of different spices, winter-warming in design, good apple tartiness. I did try a little bit cold, however heating this up certainly enhances all the aforementioned, allowing its full character through.

A World Cup Of Beers#10. FRANCE. An international brew with the football and this clear golden-orange beer brewed by the French for Sainsbury's is up next. Its style is unmistakeable, but it's also quite a light, and for me less tasty example of it. Its strength does give it good depth though, and its drinkability is not up for question. Mild herbal hoppy qualities and yeasty banana. Drank whilst watching the group game - Switzerland vs Bosnia.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Clear amber body with a thick beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of toffee, marmalade and liquorice. Flavour of rust, stewed orange and caramel. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. Rustic and earthy. Nice.

Bottle from Eltham Sainsburys. Ash brown pour with a reddish tint, beige head. Aromas of dried fruit, caramel, black tea. Taste is much the same. Quite a pronounced bitterness. Not a bad brew.

One of those stubby little bottles, perfect for a quick garden beer in the sunshine - nothing too challenging really: a light biscuit malt aroma, cold and fizzy, refreshing, some grassy malt and bitterness.

Bottle from my parents in lieu of an Easter Egg... but would I have preferred the latter? Opaque bronze. Thick fluffy foamy white head. Aroma is sweet and jammy with a bitter edge. Some citrus. Some glue. Flavourwise there a brief solo appearance of sweetness before a tangy sour but bitter edged side sweeps through. Kinda herbal, medicinal, spicy. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. It's not too bad. Typical let's add spices to an ESb seasonal effort but it's inoffensive. But, I perhaps would have been happier with a chocolate egg. OK- so have realised this is a new version with 'natural fig flavouring' which would explain the sweet element.

500ml bottle from Sainsbury's, Darlington. Golden colour, foamy white head that quickly dissipates away and aroma of toffee, apple, vanilla. Taste is sweet, caramel, toffee apple, vanilla, sugary, with alittle tartness. Medium bodied, high carbonation, lingering toffee flavour at the finish. OK.
