Description
Originally from Sainte-Croix en Plain, the Alsatian Sainte Crucienne brewery first saw the light of day in 2007 during a boozy evening, thanks to a band of idealistic friends eager to create different and very hoppy beers. At the start of their adventure, they started by brewing 20 liters of beers, then 100, then 600. It was not until 2013 that the brewery officially started in its premises in Colmar, in just three years the volume of production has doubled to reach 3000 hl today.
They share this success with a whole community of independent brewers who are part of the Front Hexagonal de Libièration, with whom they continue to work. The goal is to multiply collaborations and unique brews to create an ever more original beer in taste and participate in the revolution of the world of craft beers.

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie. Consumed at home whilst cooking large Conchiglioni Rigata pasta stuffed with small north sea brown shrimps, cream cheese and shallots. Saturday 2nd July 2016 Dark amber with a clingy off white head. A little hop sting on first sip, it’s not hugely hop but it makes its presence felt. A little buzzy burnt caramel and a little bit of vanilla, it’s good but isn’t wowing me. A6 A3 T7 P4 Ov14 3.4

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie. Consumed at home Saturday 2nd July 2016, Pours a red amber with a haze and a large white frothy head. A touch soapy on the nose, soft carbonation, it’s good, it tastes 7.2% though in saying that it’s not boozy. It’s a fruity beer but there is a light toffee and caramel underbelly that sort of slows the hops progress. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Bottle at Bar Exils, Strasbourg, Alsace, France, Wednesday 22nd June 2016. Pours hazy warm gold orangey colour with a white head. Really solid golden ale, hoppy but with a nice bitterness, more erring to the dry side, sweetness is somewhat subdued. I like this, it’s not a big flag waving beer, it just gets on with it quietly, it’s a lovely beer. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov15 3.6

Bottle from Au Brin De Paille, Colmar, Alsace, France, consumed at Camping Trois Château Eguisheim, Alsace, France, Tuesday 21st June 2016 the Summer Solstice. Pours brown with a light beige head, a little murky. Another quite pokey brown ale from Sainte Cru brewery. Ramped up nuttiness and a little chewy but with a constant hoppy reminder throughout. Like it, It’s not amazing but it is decent. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Bottle from Au Brin De Paille, Colmar, Alsace, France, consumed at Camping Trois Château Eguisheim, Alsace, France, Tuesday 21st June 2016 the Summer Solstice. Hazy gold/amber, with a white sticky head. A touch of vanilla, it’s a good solid blonde, it’s not exciting but it’s very drinkable. I like this more than Loz, bit gassy but very pleasant. Bottle from Au Brin De Paille, Colmar, Alsace, France, consumed whilst watching England dominate but draw 0-0 with Slovakia at Camping Trois Château Eguisheim, Alsace, France, Monday 20th June 2016. Pours black with a light beige head atop. This is a very solid Impy Stout, drinks far too easily and isn’t the least bit cloying or heavy. Good steady light hoppy vein throughout, roasty with nice bitter chocolate and cocoa powder. I like this, it isn’t massively in yer face, it is just a bit too easy drinking. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Bottle from Au Brin De Paille, Colmar, Alsace, France, consumed whilst watching England dominate but draw 0-0 with Slovakia at Camping Trois Château Eguisheim, Alsace, France, Monday 20th June 2016. Hazy gold edging towards light amber in colour with a frothy white head. Hoppy nose, pine and citrus aromas. Fruity in the mouth with a good citrussy element throughout, though there is a malty edge, perhaps just a little too sweet but nonetheless another very decent beer from Sainte Cru. Bottle from Au Brin De Paille, Colmar, Alsace, France, consumed at Frank (camper) Camping Trois Château Eguisheim, Alsace, France, Monday 20th June 2016 whilst cooking chicken wrapped in Alsace Jambon and served with salad. Pours chestnut brown with a light beige head, bit murky. Nutty and malty, it’s a softened hoppy edge but certainly not too hoppy. It’s got a good a slight woody edge, I really like this and usually Brown Ales do little for me. A7 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Bottle from Dranken Geers, Oostakker, Nr Gent, Belgie consumed at Frank (camper) Hans Memling campsite, Brugge, Saturday, 18th June 2016 Pours hazy dark brown with an off-white head, the aromas is mostly of fresh hops. The fresh, crisp, green hoppiness shines throughout. This drinks really easy and feels like a session beer it has great drinkability. There is roastiness in there but not as obvious as the hops which really steal the show. Pleased that we are off to Colmar on holiday next with this brewer from the town, hurrah! A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.7

4/VI/16 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: 31/VII/17 (2016-633)
Clear purple brown beer, big solid creamy beige head, very stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: lots of citrus, some pineapple, passion fruit, bit sweet, caramel touch. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: nice hoppy start, sweet caramel malts as well, some citrus, grapefruit. Aftertaste: nice bitterness, citrus, pretty grassy, grapefruit, slightly roasted hint. Lovely ipa, not sure if I would detect the "black" in this black ipa, but I couldn't care less. This is one damn tasty beer!
