Can’t believe I’ve not rated this before. Have drunk this many a time, including the famous occasion of my leaving do when I was working in the Netherlands back in 1999, when I drank seven in a row ! Anyway, on tap at Curious Gnome, Chester. Pours a rich ruby red with a small off-white head and good lacing. Red berries and malt are prominent in the aroma. In the mouth there is an initial sweetness with dark malts on a caramel base. Red berries come through later with traces of herbs and spices, Finish is fairly sweet. For me the quintessential Belgian beer – I love it !

Optisch Kupfer, in der Nase Karamell, setzt sich im Trunk fort. Hinten leicht bitter trocken. Ganz okay.
