Description
Looking for the real taste of Antwerp? Since 1833, there has been just one address: our Antwerp City Brewery. Because when people get together in Antwerp, they do so more often than not with a Bolleke Koninck in their hand. And that’s how De Koninck has become synonymous with Antwerp –and vice-versa. Every day, we work hard to uphold this proud tradition while also experimenting on ways to perfect and reinvent the taste of Antwerp.

A super clear crisp beer. The amber malt body is great, it’s just a little overbalanced by some astringency, which is mild, but there. Gollem on the water ams (3,5 july 2021) Again at gollem oovertome. Same feelings as ^

Dark golden to light orange, some haziness. About one finger of a quite dense white head, actually surprisingly low for a tripel. Quite quick to recede too, little lacing. Aroma has strong fruitiness (candied fruits, orange most prominent, and pear), with hints of spiciness and earthiness. Not very deep, but clean and quite intense. Taste notes follow the aroma closely, with a caramelish malt base that barely shows up. Quite high in sweetness, average bitterness. just the slightest hint of residual sugars, and so overall in good balance, with a semi-dry finish and aftertaste. Medium to dense bodied, average carbonation (surely lower than style average). Overall a quite easy mouthfeel for the style. Possibly this bottle had a bit less carbonation than usual. Overall a very average tripel, enjoyable enough but left me unimpressed.

100 ml sample in 2016 at the brewery. Murky black with a small head. Intense liquorice, herbal spicy hops, burnt malt. Roasted toasted bitterness. Full bodied, slick texture, soft carbonated, dry intense bitter finish.

Draught Good, foamy, lishtly creamish-coloured head over veiled orangeish amber beer. Spicy nose, rosemary, bit of band aid. De Koninck yeast. De Koninck Bolleke with an extra bitterish streak, bit resiny, non-sweet caramel. Again the typical De Koninck yeast. The bitterness lingers on, covering not only the classical maltiness of Bolleke, but also the extra alcohol. Some stickyness all the same, at least medium bodied, medium to good carbonation, spritzy. Better than the classical Bolleke? No. Interesting? Yes. Likeable? Certainly. Variation is the spice of life. Crowler filled at the brewery.
