Description
Looking for the real taste of Antwerp? Since 1833, there has been just one address: our Antwerp City Brewery. Because when people get together in Antwerp, they do so more often than not with a Bolleke Koninck in their hand. And that’s how De Koninck has become synonymous with Antwerp –and vice-versa. Every day, we work hard to uphold this proud tradition while also experimenting on ways to perfect and reinvent the taste of Antwerp.

(Bottle, Paters Vaetje, Antwerpen, 17 Oct 2019) Hazy golden colour with lasting, white head. Malty, hoppy nose with bread, hay and spicy hops. Malty taste with notes of bread, hay, citrus, peaches and a balanced spicy bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and refreshing. Quite nice.

Frothy white head left a thick creamy cover on a slowly carbonating amber coloured body. Belgian yeast, bitter orange & spiced aroma. Medium bodied, smooth on the front with clean sharp back. Brett, Belgian yeast, herbaceous, citrus & cardamom tastes with a long tangy finish. Yeasty Blond!

I Draught /I Good, dense, faintly amberish head, retreating over veiled orange-amber beer. Faintly sourish, hint indeed at Bretts, bit barnyard odours and yet De Koninck yeast. Again sourish, if very mild, mild roast. Lots of De Koninck, yet Brett obvious. Faintly nutty flavour, as well as fruity esters. Quite balance, has a metallic iron flavour that immediately struck a bell from times immemorial. Light, slick to faintly viscous even. Feels much better carbonated than it looks. This is one I like more and more, as it the renaissance of the real Saison d'antan - it is the spitting image of the Saison de Voisin when it came from Flobecq/Vloesberg, if just a tad stronger. OTOH, I really can't find the Calvados.
