Location: Draft at Texas Arizona, 1/3/13
Aroma: The nose has some chocolate and caramel malts, nutty notes, and oats to it
Appearance: An opaque dark brown pour, with a creamy light-brown head, and mid-heavy lace
Flavor: A mid-heavy malt flavor, lightly sweet, and similar to the nose, with an earthy, light bitter finish
Palate: The body leans full, with a creamy feel, it is fairly smooth, and finishes dry and roasty
Overall Impression: I thought this was a really solid Brown with a nice mouthfeel and some good heft. Well-made and pretty easy to drink. Nicely done.

The cage on this is wound really tight and as I’m fighting with that it gets loose enough that the cork is able to explode off the top of the bottle and hints me on the side of the head. WTF! I still can’t find the cork, or maybe I have a concussion. Seriously at fridge temp it came off like a champagne cork. I poured this quickly because I was afraid of the mess it was going to make, but surprisingly most of the carbonation stayed in suspension, I’m thankful I opened this right out of the fridge. Pours a solid slightly hazy dark brown with a huge foamy tan head that takes forever to recede and leaves some stickies on the sides of the glass. The aroma is sweet and fruity with a roasty edge to it. Lots of plums cherries and raisins with a fair amount of caramel and brown sugar and a hint of coffee and chocolate. Spicy yeasty esters remind us that this is a Belgian inspired brew. The flavor follows the aroma quite well, but adds a bit of oxidation and a hint of ash to the mix. Medium to thick body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. Not a bad tasting brew. Its obviously way over carbonated which affects the mouthfeel, and based on the residual sweetness I can only see that getting worse. Thanks to Alex M for giving me the opportunity to be impaled by cork ;)

Location: Draft at HopsScotch, 10/5/12
Aroma: The aroma is apricot and citrus fruit hops, with some resin too
Appearance: It has a cloudy orange pour, with a lasting head, and heavy lace
Flavor: This one tastes a bit sweet and fairly heavy bitter, the flavor feels on style here
Palate: The body of this beer is medium, it feels somewhat creamy, and has average carbonation
Overall Impression: I thought this was a very solid example of the style, from a NJ Brewery that I was previously unaware of. Since this one was pretty good, I look forward to trying more beers from Kane.
