Draught at the brewery
Amber color, dark, clean. Aroma of rye. The flavor is a bit earthy, caramel, and rye; but also some vegetable bitterness, cabbage, and overall it has no Bitter character.

Bottle from the brewery
Cloudy dull golden color, almost murky, with small head. Some smell of dirt, besides that it’s a decent beer, with a good malt backbone, not crisp as modern versions, but not sticky as the older ones, resiny hops, fruity, fresh oranges, and quite good alcohol management; some yeasty chewiness. Nice beer, a bit dirty though.

650ml bottle (thx, Alex!) at Brian’s office. Pours a dirty golden with a white head. Aroma is sweet, little bit dirty, very fruity. Taste is very fruity with melon, watermelon, and caramel notes. Very nice.

Brown, lasting tan head.Earthy nose, lightly roasted.More of same in palate. Good malt body and profile, with very light hop bitterness in finish. I quite like it !!

On tap at Strathcona, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of sugar sweet candy, loads of resinous hops and alcohol. Flavour wallops you with truckloads of resinous hops, caramel malt and ample booze. Rather messy, but not too chaotic. It's fairly powerful and well-balanced between hops and malt. But it does have some phenolic notes that need to be dealt with. Needs work but it's a fun to drink boozy hop bomb.

Cloudy and light dull tan. Medium, even head. Some orangey hop note, bit of yeastiness, but also grapefruit so basically a citrus hop focus. On the palate, it’s more like stewed fruit and alcohol. Honestly, not working for me. Bitterness is good, malts aren’t bad at all, but I’m not crazy about the hop character, and the alcohol is jacked. Triple IPA really needs more behind it to support all that burly booze.

Dull, light amber, with just a sliver of head. Has pear, berry, melon... nice mix of hops, seems from the florals like the emphasis is on the Wakatu. Thin on the palate...I get malt sweetness but without much body. Hops have been recorded from the other room. The Wakatu brightness I get on the nose is but a distant echo on the palate. That leaves altogether too much sticky malt to drive the bus. Hrm. Not what I like in APA.

Medium brown and more or less bright. Thin head. Husky thin brown malts. Toast, cocoa...I mean there is good complexity here but it’s missing the residual sugars to round out the palate. Gotta use a slow yeast and some unfermentables to make a killer mild.

Light amber. Bright. Has a touch of caramel and crackery malt. Thin, unpleasant huskiness and spent grains...not at all the rich malts I like in this style. Conceptually, this is just too light and underhopped so the balance is all wrong.

Slightly dull gold. Thin head. Mushroomy nose is as much sticky under fermented pale malt as hop. Light bitterness but the flavour has a lot of cabaggey sulphur stuff. Execution certainly leaving something to be desired.
