Description
Urban Artifact is Ohio’s home for sour beer; located in the historic St. Patrick’s church in Cincinnati. With a special emphasis on fruit beers, they have created a niche with their signature overfruited Midwest Fruit Tart style focusing on balance, drinkability, and real fruit. Brewing a bevy of different sour beers, from the standard German style gose, to the exotic spontaneously fermented barrel aged sour with a wide variety of different fruits, there is sure to be something new and exciting to explore. We are currently on pace to use over 400,000 lbs of real fruit this year alone!
Our Northside, Cincinnati taproom is open seven days a week, with food service provided by Wildfire Pizza Kitchen. We host live music five nights a week at the Radio Artifact Live stage, and make the historic church sanctuary, The Reliquary, available for receptions and events.
Radio Artifact, the Urban Artifact hosted independent music radio, can be listened to on 91.7FM HD2 in Cincinnati or live streaming online at radioartifact.com

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown with a small bit of beige head that dissipates. Raspberry and light cacao aromas on the nose. More raspberry on the palate with some light wild berry, salt and more cacao nib. Dry finish with a stronger lean on fruit than chocolate. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sliderule on 30 Mar 2019 at 00:21 - Score: 7. Original review text: Lots of raspberry and berry aromas. Palate has more of the same with some cacao nib flavors. Crushable.

Good, just a bit overly aggressive in its tart citric acidity, what with the lemon juice on top of the lacto sourness. Vanilla helps keep the tart center from overwhelming the pint, while a mild cherry sweet streak adds depth to the finish. Nice purple hue, but a tad boozy for the ABV.

Sour, as it should be, with strong citrus and tart berry notes and a floral/herbal hop undertone. Maybe some orange, maybe some earth and bubblegum from the Mosaics, but the overwhelming tartness kinda obliterates any nuance. Eh. (RB says it's an IPA. Ha.)

This beer pours a cloudy reddish-purple color with a thick frothy purplish-white had that diminishes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lace. The aroma consists of tart berries, yeast, wheat and malt. Medium body with flavors of tart blackberry and raspberry, mildly funky yeast and doughy malt. The finish is sour berries and cherries. Good beer all around.

Currants, plum, caramel malt, and hay aroma. Murky purple with minimal head. Mildly sweet currant, plum, caramel malt, moderately sour vinegar, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Great body and balance. Very nice.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 12/26/2018. Pours hazy very dark ruby red/purple color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy pink head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy blackberries, raspberries, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, orange, plum, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light vanilla/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, blackberries, raspberries, pale/wheat malts, and light vanilla notes; with great strength. Taste of huge sour/tart/tangy blackberries, raspberries, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, orange, plum, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light vanilla/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy blackberries, raspberries, fruit skin/seed, lemon, lime, orange, plum, apricot, red/green apple, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light vanilla/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, blackberries, raspberries, pale/wheat malts, and light vanilla flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/sourness, and tangy fruit balance; with no puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness and tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, acidic/tangy, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.3%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited imperial kettle sour! All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, blackberries, raspberries, pale/wheat malts, and light vanilla flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV, with the modestely acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Amazing balance of super jammy berries, Lacto complexity, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example. Can said they only used 30 grams of vanilla beans for 30BBL, but it was still somewhat noticeable.

12/12/18, pours like motor oil, smells like a malty chocolatey mess, tastes like raspberry juice. Oddly missing the chocolate in the flavor much. Ah chocolate burps, there it is! Nice oddity.

Not bad, almost like drinking an unsweetened carbonated yogurt beverage, what with the vanilla mimicking the creamy sweetness of a smoothie. So much sour berry, yet never grows cloy or overbearing, with a stubborn, yeasty tartness delivering a nice citric bite on the fade. Not overly complex, but the vanilla's a lovely addition. Doesn't change my mind about sours on the whole, but makes for a nice digression from my usual sea of IPAs and imperial stouts.
