Description
Fremont Brewing was born of our love for our home and history as well as the desire to prove that beer made with the finest local ingredients – organic when possible --, is not the wave of the future but the doorway to beer's history. Starting a brewery in the midst of the Great Recession is clearly an act of passion. We invite you to come along with us and enjoy that passion -- because beer matters.

16 oz can from a four pack from Costco. Aroma has notes of coffee, hazelnut, vanilla, licorice, cocoa, wood, molasses. Pours very dark brown to black with a one finger tan head with decent retention. Taste is fairly sweet with a firmly bitter edge. Roasty flavors of the aroma descriptors. Mouthfeel is nearly velvety but more prickly.

Can from Tavour. Pours dark brn/blk with a monstrous and persistent creamy tan head that started to lace but sort of stalled. Aroma of chocolate, hazelnut and vanilla. Also a bourbon note. Med plus body. Flavor is the aroma. Hazelnut is strong. Bourbon second. Chocolate third. Malty as heck, but I don't have a word to apply to it. Strong, smooth flavors.

Can from Tavour. Pours translucent gold with a monstrous foamy white head. Aroma is pretty much citrus - even with grapefruit pith. Med body or so. It's not wholly dry, but far from sweet - malt just has to make itself known. More than moderately bitter. All that citrus in the aroma is reflected in the flavor - especially the pith - but pine/resin fights for prominence. Rather wow overall.

12 ounce can from Tavour. Brilliant orange gold color. Lovely pillowy white head. Fragrant aromas of sweet citrus, pineapple and pine. Flavor is bittersweet citrus, apricot and pine. Big boozy middle. Intensely bitter finish and aftertaste is redolent of crushed black pepper. A big beer for big boys and girls!

Dull darkish brown. No head. Soft, figgy, sticky dates and big bourbonic vanillins. Rich sugars, basically no carbo. Solid, doesn’t come across as special in the context of the Fremont oeuvre but still very good.

12oz can from Brewers Haven. Deep golden pour, one finger fluffy white head, some lacing. Aroma is citrusy. The taste brings the "extra" from the Beer 's name, huge zesty tang, notes of tangerine and orange peel. Very juicy, very tasty.

16 oz can. Aroma is amazing with notes of guava, strawberry, tangerine. Pours murky orange with a one finger cream-white head with decent retention. Taste is not as impressive, but it has a moderate to high pithy bitterness with lots of juicy hop character.

16 oz can. Aroma has notes of wet dishrag, floral notes, pine, biscuit, overripe guava, puke, alcohol. Pours lightly hazy golden with a one+ finger white soapy head with great retention. Taste is moderately bitter with some light candy sweetness in support. Not bad, but disappointing considering how awesome the normal version of the beer was when Fremont first released it however many years ago. The normal everyday version also seems to be a shadow of its former self.
