Can at the cabin in NH. Pours crystal clear orange-gold, lightly effervescent, with a creamy white head. Simple dry bready malts in the aroma, some lightly ripened orange. Light sweet flavor with decent balance, more dry bread, faint pine, toasty pine, leaves, orange and other citrus. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Simple and pretty well balanced to finish, with lightly toasted bread, hints of grains and hay, orange rind. Basic, easy-drinking session beer - a camping beer, if you like. Not bad.

Can at the cabin in NH. Pours murky, red-brown with suspended yeast floaties and a frothy, white head. The nose has rich brown bread, light nutmeg, some ripe orange. Light to medium sweet flavor with grainy brown bread, nutmeg, other spices, cinnamon, mild earthy bitterness. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Moderately sweet to finish with candied fruits, orange, dirt, grains, light alcohol. OK.

12 oz. lightly hazy yellow with fizzy bubbles that died fast in my pint glass. Aroma is light grain, lime and citrus peel.
The flavor is mostly citrus, lemons, limes and pale malts. Hints of hops with a low bitterness. Lemongrass gives a light herbal tone. The body is light with a tingle of liveliness on the tongue. The citrus and light grain make a easy to drink summer brew, simple and straight forward.

4 oz. sample@ Amesbury Ale House. Copper color with lasting head retention. Aroma is extremely mild. Hints of mineral water and mashed corn, weak caramel.
Honestly the flavor is a mirror image of the aroma. Corn, mineral water and some caramel malt in the base. Light in body with some lager yeast notes. I think it’s innovative that a New England brewery decided on a style that is not brewed much anymore. So I give a few points for creativity. This works as a nice lawn mower / yard work brew.

Can at CBC, April 9 2014.Clear golden color, off-white to yellow head. Sweet, malty, vegetal, sugary scent. Mineral, bitter taste. Bitter aftertaste. Fizzy mouthfeel, medium high bitterness.

Corn, vanilla, cream, light herbal hops and a hint of wax in the nose....Somewhat mineral-like, but not in a bad way. Cleanish, medium-strength aroma.
Fair amount of bitterness leading to light toffee and some sourdough notes. Quite malty and in that sense, it’s flavorful, but the somewhat doughy sweetness detracts from what should be a more crisp, biting lager finish and in its place it’s just too doughy and sweet. The hops are ctiric and pretty well-done, but the beer just needs more dryness. Carbonation could be a bit tighter. Not quite there, but pretty good.

Pours deep gold into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Dark caramel aromas. Dry and smooth with caramel upfront turning to mild earth in the medium length finish.

Pours a slightly hazed gold into a hefe. White head with medium retention recedes leaving soapy lacing. Sour vegetable and banana aromas. Sharp with banana and citrus upfront turning to sour vegetable and leaves.

16 oz. can purchased at Bier Cellar, Portland, ME. Hazy gold / orange color with thick lasting head that died slowly. Aroma is sweet bready malt with hints of over ripe banana.
Flavor is a tad muddled. Light fruity notes of peaches and citrus. The body is pretty full with a thick yeasty heartiness. The bitterness from the piney hops try’s too fight its way through the yeasty fruit flavors. A little bit of heat creeps in at the end.
Overall I like that they tried too do something different with the style. But a hefeweizen really should have a hop profile. If Baxter brews this without the hops it would turn out really well. The hops through this brew all out of whack. Maybe using a traditional German hop instead of some West Coast American variety would make this a much more cohesive brew.

The appearance was a hazy yellow colored body with a light yet foamy lumpy white head. The head lasts about a good minute. There are a ton of bubbles up the sides of the pint glass. A decent amount of carbonation gently rises from the bottom.
The smell has hops up front with light citrus backing it up. Some malts come in as the beer warms.
The taste is tangy yet sweet sort of lemon combined very nicely with the malts, some coriander and lemongrass comes out as the beer warms.
The palate is light, smooth, crisp, and drinkable.
Overall this is another good beer from Baxter’s. Get to the head of the grill line!
