Another excellent stout from a company who makes a great range of them and one of my favorite coffee beers. +++Sampled from a 12oz brown bottle this beer pours thick, black and oily with a thick foamy dark brown head that lingers and left good lacing. The aroma was strong fresh ground coffee. Strong espresso flavor. There is no sweetness. Palate is gritty like espresso. Taste is very strong of coffee.Very long finish. Moderately full bodied. Tasty!

I think this is the blackest Stout I've ever seen. No transparency whatsoever. Deep coffee and malt aroma. Very rich and smooth mouthfeel with a flavor that is rich and complex. Coffee, chocolate, and silky richness. Absolutely amazing beer. No hype here - as has been said - It ain't braggin' if you can do it! Thanks to Slikwily for sending this! WOW!

A huge head exploded from the pour filling the glass. The creamy head slowly melted into a clear honey colored beer that gave off a beautiful orange citrus aroma. Malt and hops are intertwined in almost perfect harmony. Very smooth. The flavor goes from just slightly malty, to slightly bitter as it enters the finish, which slowly fades inviting another sip. One of the better IPA'a I've tried. A big thanks to Slikwily for sending this my way.

I am a fan of this brewer but tend to gravitate towards stouts more than porters. I have only happened to try this one a couple of times. A bit too dry for my taste +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours black with a large dark brown head. The aroma is bitter and lightly roasty. The flavor is remarkably bitter with a dry, toasty malt flavor. toasted flavor lingers. There is no sweetness to this beer at all.

I have let this one sit a couple of months. Pours a somewhat opaque dark reddish-amber with virtually no head or lacing. Strong malt and caramel aroma, along with a touch of fruit. Full-bodied with an assertive malt flavor. Warming alcohol, caramel and hops flavors, as well as a hint of port wine. The finish is a little on the harsh side so I think this would benefit from some additional aging. Still this is a solid Barley Wine.

Great color... looks like I already can smell it. (looks like the apricots and pink grapefruits it smells like just from pouring it). There's that wonderful smell... ahhh refreshing! GOOD taste, again, just like it looks and smells. VERY strong, very bittersweet, and very filling. So filling, I have to drop it's drinkability. SURE I loved this beer, but finishing it was rough only because I got full after half of it. Not a sesssion beer, but I will DEFINITELY return!

Paid $1.39 for a 12-oz single. One word to describe my overall experience here: unimpressed. My biggest complaint was the lack of flavor. It seemed to be bitter without much else. Nothing defined here... kinda like wanting getting some good french fries, putting them in the fridge overnight, then heating them in the microwave the next day.

Re-rating after 16+ years. November 6, 2021 $2.35 bottle, WW. Dark brown, nearly black with a small brown head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate. Creamy chocolate, roasted malt, light fruitiness, coffee. Score is remaining the exact same, which surprises me. original rating from August 16, 2005 Appearance: BLACK, not dark brown, not slightly black, this mother is BLACK. No head. Very faint coffee scent- wish there was more of a smell- because this beer has a nice look. RICH and THICK. Coffee, chocolate... nice. Burnt rice.. Thin in the mouth for a thick brew. A bit too thick in body and thin in mouth to warrant more than slightly above average drinkability.

Paid $1.39 for a single 12-oz. Very pale yellow in color, decent head. Very beer tent smelling. Nothing great here. Not overly impressed here. Tastes too close to a few macros I can think of. Nice mouthfeel, that's for sure!! Perfect amount of carbonation...

BLACK in appearance. BLACK, I say. Small brown head. Looks luscious. VERY faint odor of coffee. OK-- now this is my third Bell's of the night and what they REALLY lack is smell. There's nothing strong or defined here. But then again, smell does not make a beer. THICK in body, coffee in flavor. EXCELLENT in the mouth. Lotsa carbonation- much better than their Double Cream Stout offering in that sense. NICE beer. Drink it, drink it now!
