Description
Established 1666 - Closed 1989 - Re-established 2010 - Re-named 2022
One of the greatest names in British brewing, Truman's has been a part of London life for almost 350 years. Closed in 1989 during dark days for the brewing industry, we have been working hard to bring Truman's back to its former glory. We craft an eclectic range of great beer in cask, keg and can at our new brewery in Hackney Wick. Everything we brew, we do with with skill, belief and passion.
The brewery in Hackney Wick was closed in June 2022 but the award-winning recipes are now brewed under contract for the three venues and online sales.
From Thursday 15 September, Truman’s Beer will be known as Big Penny, following the acquisition of the trademark by the management team at the Old Truman Brewery announced earlier this year.

Keg at Rose and Thistle, Frimley. Citrus sherbert aroma. Gold. Creamy white head. Bitter. Crisp. Some citrus sourness but not as much as the aroma may have suggested. Some vague butter hints. Light-medium medium bodied. Slick if thin. Fizzy carbonation. Long dry finish. Dry as I'd expect with the hop but overall a tad basic. Drops points of the butter.

Cask @ Defectors Weld, Shepherds Bush. Golden with a frothy-bubbly head. It's a hoppy ale, but with a bland aftertaste in this respect. It has mild sugars.

[Cask at the Willow Walk (JDW), Victoria.] A bright amber pour with a loose translucent head; aroma of pink grapefruit; very dry in the mouth with a sharp grapefruit taste; and a deeply bitter finish. Too sharp to make me want another. I

Can at Penderel's Oak, Holborn. Light gold, clear. Sharp citrussy hop, some lime juice, a bit of soap in the aroma. Bitteraweet with a light grassy element which fades. Not the greatest beer but a competent enough golden.
