Description
Established 1666 - Closed 1989 - Re-established 2010 - Re-named 2022

One of the greatest names in British brewing, Truman's has been a part of London life for almost 350 years. Closed in 1989 during dark days for the brewing industry, we have been working hard to bring Truman's back to its former glory. We craft an eclectic range of great beer in cask, keg and can at our new brewery in Hackney Wick. Everything we brew, we do with with skill, belief and passion.

The brewery in Hackney Wick was closed in June 2022 but the award-winning recipes are now brewed under contract for the three venues and online sales.

From Thursday 15 September, Truman’s Beer will be known as Big Penny, following the acquisition of the trademark by the management team at the Old Truman Brewery announced earlier this year.

Hand-pulled cask pint on 7th Dec 2018; Hamilton Hall, Liverpool Street Station, London. Clear golden pour, fluffy white crown. Slight citrus leanings in the aroma and taste, not a beer that's going to test your senses greatly but a decent refreshing brew all round.

Bottled 500ml (Systembolaget)
Dark nut brown colour, medium-sized beige head. Aroma is earthy and grassy. Light-bodied. Active carbonation. Light tartness. Then a bit of toasted malts. I can't trace much as beer has become too lively.

A fine refreshing and easy drinkable beer. Very session able.
Hazy pale golden color with a fine white head. Ok lacing. Pleasant citric hoppy aroma. Semi dry ending and a decent lasting hoppy tail. Citric hoppy, malty, fruity and mild pine in the flavor.

Cask at the Cock Tavern - Hackney. Pours clear gold with a small, frothy white head. Has nice sweet bready pale malts, juicy orange, soft bitter citrus rind. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation; nice condition. Finishes with more ripening citrus fruits, melon, pale bread. Not bad.

Pigs Ear. Cask. Clear dark amber beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Light palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Decent condition. Very mild dark malts, touch of bitterish chocolate. Brandy chips? If you are looking for them, a touch of fruity brandy. Mild pine. Little orange peel. Lightly bitter finish. Quite tasty.

Flaska.
