Description
A story that’s been brewing for some time
Immortalised in the name of one of Fuller’s famous ales, 1845 is a year that will forever be synonymous with Fuller, Smith & Turner. It was then that the partnership papers between the three families were officially signed, marking the start of something very special for London’s pub and beer scene.

However, the Fuller’s story had been brewing long before then.

Beer and pub have played a role in this part of the capital for more than 350 years, dating back to the era of Oliver Cromwell. Back then, pubs were plentiful in number and, in addition, it was quite common for large households to brew their own beer.

In the late 1600s, one such private brewhouse was in the gardens of Bedford House on Chiswick Mall. Another, a far humbler concern, was operating nearby at the cottage of Thomas Urlin.

When Urlin died, the property passed to his widow and son-in-law, a gentleman named Thomas Mawson, who stepped in to take up the reigns as manager. It was he who laid the foundations for a major brewing enterprise – buying The George public house and two adjoining cottages for £70, then later snapping up the brewhouse on Bedford House too.

Thomas Mawson is still honoured today through The Mawson Arms, the pub located at the original brewery site.

On cask at their Heathrow bar, as "ESB Champion Ale". Pours clear amber with a white head. Nothing on the nose. Flavour has dry crackers, some damp bread crusts, a bit of dry grass. Bitter finish. Fairly underwhelming.

On cask at their Heathrow bar. Pours clear light amber with a white head. Gentle cracker malts and some bitters on the nose. Flavour has lots of bitters and a fairly thin, dry malt base. This is London's pride?

Good, simple, light Bitter. Westminster is quite busy during the liquid lunch hour. My last drink in London...for now.

Fabulous! End of the keg, so extra bubbly and it didn't clear. He almost didn't give it to me, but a bit of extra yeast and hops doesn't stop this boy. Tastes really good.

Supposedly Dickens' favorite pub, they have a lot of Fuller's! Including this, their seasonal house beer. Good one, though nothing special

(Bottle) Brownish red colour with frothy, tan head. Malty nose with dried fruit, caramel, fruit cake, dried apricots, orange peel, marmalade, nougat and chocolate. Malty, fruity taste with notes of fruit cake, caramel, dried apricots, orange peel, raisins, nougat, chocolate and a mild spicy/earthy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite sweet. Complex, strongish and well balanced. Very nice.

(Bottle, 0.5l, from Alko, 20251011) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized, frothy, white and it lasted long. Aroma had toffee, dark fruits, earth and light citrus notes. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were earth, toffee, grass, toasted notes and bitterness. Aftertaste had toasted malts, earth and bitterness. A very classic Fuller's taste. Aroma had some extra twist. Already good.

Bottle on 6th October 2025. Pours a clear golden amber with shallow, diminishing foam and spot lacing. A happy blend of sweet malt aroma. Grassy hop notes , savoury nuttiness and honey sweetness in-mouth. Nutty malts and honey then shape a velvety finish that’s later penetrated by grasses. Smooth mouthfeel and a full body.

Bottle no. 028532. A beautiful, dark reddish brown beer, a head is medium and blond. Aroma has dried fruitness, prune, apricot, caramel, also light notes of fresh citrus. Taste has caramel, dried apricot, the bitterness is drying the taste nicely. Medium bodied. Very nice vintage, I'd say that this will be improved and smoothening after aging.
