Description
The brewery was set up by former music teachers Steve and Christine Gibbs in 1994. The Durham Brewery produces a wide range of cask and bottle-conditioned ales. The brewery has a ten barrel plant but with a 20 barrel mash tun for the stronger ales, four 10-barrel fermenters and various conditioning tanks for bottled beer with a warm room for bottle conditioning. All production is onsite, including bottling, and it is company policy that there be no filtration and no pasteurisation. The brewery motto is “Perfected”. Despite all our years, this family owned brewery is still small, preferring to concentrate on perfecting beers rather than manufacturing volume.

Cask at Darlington Snooker Club. Gluten Reduced. Orangey gold colour, white foam head leaving lacing and aroma of caramel, citrus, hops. Taste is malty, caramel, orange citrus, zesty, pine, with resiny earthy hop bitterness. Medijm bodied, soft carbonation, drying hopped bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Bottle. Xmas gift from the missus. Clear dark cola brown. Solid tan swede. Looks good. Nose has Turkish Delight chocolate bar. Also Turkish Delight proper. Decent roast malt character. Taste is sweet, unsurprisingly, but there’s a nice malt hop bitterness too. Silky on the palate. Sweet but lightly bitter finish. Good gear that reminds me of North Riding’s pastry affairs but, in the missus’s words, “there’s no cardboard here”.

Bottle. Xmas gift from the missus. 5.6%. Nearly black. Swirly dense slim beige foam. Looks good. Nose has creamy chocolate. Bit of a dark chocolate mousse thing. Nice vinous character. Inevitably there’s a rum and raisin ice cream thing too. Taste is fairly sweet as expected but there’s enough hop bitterness to keep it from being lairy and lactic. Smooth and nicely drinkable overall. Slight bitterness on the finish. Nice one.

hazy brownish dark amber colour, minimal beige-ish white head; aroma of grape juice, leather, soy sauce, and some fruitiness; taste of soy sauce, grape juice, some salty, fruity and spicy alcoholic notes; a "bit" "weak" for this high ABV

Christmas Eve Beers #10. Session style IPA, its texture is quite easy, but body-wise quite full. Hoppy and good-looking.
