Description
The brewery was set up by former music teachers Steve and Christine Gibbs in 1994. The Durham Brewery produces a wide range of cask and bottle-conditioned ales. The brewery has a ten barrel plant but with a 20 barrel mash tun for the stronger ales, four 10-barrel fermenters and various conditioning tanks for bottled beer with a warm room for bottle conditioning. All production is onsite, including bottling, and it is company policy that there be no filtration and no pasteurisation. The brewery motto is “Perfected”. Despite all our years, this family owned brewery is still small, preferring to concentrate on perfecting beers rather than manufacturing volume.

Bottle. Mitchell’s Wines. Hazed deep slightly gingery gold. Solid lasting white head. Pretty punchy hoppage here. Very twangy and vinous. White grape to the fore. Bit of pink grapefruit. Bit of nectarine. Lean malts in the background. Taste is light dry and moderately bitter. Decent body overall. Light slightly vinous finish.

My thoughts are now turning to the Wigan Beer Festival tomorrow where my next beer will come from, this last before is a golden coloured brew with plenty of bitterness about it, although it's a hoppy ale in design.

Teesside Beery Day Out Beer#2. Not quite black, milky in taste, a little sticky-sweet in texture. It does feel smooth in the palate though, and the milkiness of the sweet tasting roasted malts is flavoursome.
