12 oz bottle. Pours a golden color with a small white head. Aroma is light caramel malts, with a touch of hops. Flavor is caramel malt, hop, and that’s about it. Nothing bad to this beer, albeit pretty typical of a standard, solid amber ale.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention leaves spotted lacing. Light sour cocoa aromas. Thin with upfront oak and soured milk chocolate with a mild hop finish.

Sampler at MSP airport at the Rock Bottom. Never tried this beer before, not exactly the biggest Boulder fan, plus another amber never interested me but was I surprised. From the first whiff I as surprised, what is that.. weird, is that like a leafy apricot. It is all green and tangy. Taste is again light apricot with dry twig and then again a strong apricot finsih. Weird, its a weird combination of hops and yeast maybe, like a juiced up Magic Hat #9. But its not all that special, still just a pale ale (or amber, whatever the hell that means) underneath all that. I kind of like it but then I kind of do not. I think some of the ratings are so low, probably because the beer does not travel well and sits usually too long before people try it but I got to try it on tap, I am thinking this must be pretty damn fresh. It had a clear, very, very, light copper color. I will probably try this again if I encounter on tap.

07Killer Penguin BW-22oz bottle-pours a foamy to rocky tan head that laces and copper/ruby red color. Aroma is nicely balanced medium malt-caramel, pine hops and dark fruit. Taste is nicely balanced sweet medium malt-caramel/roasty, pine/citrus-orange hops and dark fruit, some alcohol. Taste not quite up to aroma.

Bottle on 12/28/2008 from River City Cellars. Dark black body with a medium creamy light brown head. Sweet chocolate, roast, light coffee, oak, and a bit of floral hops. Roasty, chocolate and floral hop flavor, some coffee hints with a bit of oak, fairly bitter. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation.

Bottle on 09/27/2008 from Once Upon A Vine - South. Very clear copper body with a large frothy white head. Sweet caramel and mild floral hop aroma. Sweet caramel and floral hop flavor, some earthy hints. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Dark brown coloured body with ruby highlights and a thin brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and nice turbinado (raw) sugar. Full to Medium-bodied; Strong malt flavour up front with some spice and coffee tastes soon following. No chocolate tastes at all - the aftertaste is very clean...no bitterness to speak of. Overall, an all right but weak porter. Nice to try even though it was from Colorado via New York to Washington. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 25-March-2006.

Nice strong copper coloured body with a thinnish off-white head. Aroma of hops, metal, malt, apricots and a light spiceyness. Medium-bodied; Strong hoppiness up front with a mild malty character and a good amount of sugars throughout. Aftertaste shows bitterness from the hops, but nothing else really. Overall, a bit one-dimensional, but showing some good characteristics. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverages in Albany, New York on 05-February-2006 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Hazy golden coloured body with a super-thin white head. Aroma of wheat, canned corn, coriande seed and a very light yeasty scent. Light-bodied; Sharp citrus flavour with wheat and coriander seed most noticeable. Aftertaste shows a lightly bittering malt with some other citrus tastes and a short fresh flavour. Overall, a good beer - must be nice in the summer instead of the winter, but still great to try! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 24-December-2005.

Bottle. Hazy amber body with a small, frothy off-white head that disappears. Light aroma of toasted grain and flowers with a hint of dough and a slight whiff of amonia. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter, but it finishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, lively carbonation and a smooth texture that turns thick, chewy. Grainy/husky taste that’s not very clean.
