Description
Hope Brewery opened in 2014, and kicked off their range with a whole lot of hoppy ales, distinctively recognisable by their black cans and amp design - a homage to Hope's love of music. Since then they've been satisfying a desire for new beers and new styles including NEIPAs, sours, trophy-winning stouts and even Australia's strongest IPA.

From a 375ml can on 24/7/2019. Pours a clearish golden with a small head (a touch surprising given it's meant to be hazy!). Has a really strong and distinctive grapefruit aroma. Tastes of sweet citrus and stone fruit, with a touch of honey, finishing with a firmish and (again) very distinctive grapefruit bitterness, with a touch of lemongrass. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Goddamn this is tasty stuff. A truly fabulous beer.

375mL can, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out medium roasted malt upfront, followed by oak, and a hint of vanilla. Flavour is along the same lines, with oak, medium roast and some chalky notes. Dusty, chalky mouthfeel, with a bourbony finish. Excellent.

375mL can, pours a cloudy golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma absolutely bursts of tropical fruits, with plenty of mango, passionfruit and pineapple, along with citrus fruits. Flavour is loaded with tropical fruits upfront, and a blast of citrus hops. Tropical, juicy and citrusy. This is excellent.

From a 375ml can on 10/6/2019. Pours a slightly opaque deep golden with a big head which disappears fairly quickly. The nose is sharp, dank and pungent, with lots of ripe tropical and stone fruit, and more than a whiff of booze. In the mouth it's super sweet, with masses of pineapple, mango and passionfruit, and super boozy, with a resiny bitterness prominent, along with a dash of warming alcohol burn. Dank, super intense and over the top. The 18% is no surprise, but that said, it's actually reasonably approachable if definitely a very slow sipper (the can took me about an hour and a half). The palate is syrupy and the carbonation moderate. All up, I think it's a partially successful experiment. An 18% IIPA really has no right to be drinkable, but this actually goes down pretty well. That said, there are enough faults and rough edges to prevent this from really impressing. Still, worth a try for novelty value if nothing else.

From a 375ml can on 17/5/2019. Pours a hazy golden brown with a small head. The note features stone and citrus fruit, with a real zesty finish. The flavour is a combo of tropical, stone and citrus fruit, including the promised coconut. Like the nose, there's a distinctive sharp, zesty finish, with some spicy hops. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Unusual, interesting and tasty.

From a 375ml can on 3/12/2018 (admins - please note that this should entered as 'Hope Brewhouse' for consistency with other Hope beers). Pours a slightly hazy medium golden with a biggish white head. Has a fairly typical juicy citrus/tropical nose. Tastes of peach, pineapple and mango against a mild bready background. It finishes with a pretty intense spicy bitterness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. It could perhaps be a touch smoother, but it's still pretty tasty stuff.

Can. Golden with tight head. Tropical, almost rotting pineapple nose. Very puckering. Some sweetness underneat. Nice take on berliner style.

From a 375ml can on 21/4/2019. Pours near black with a medium head. Has a slightly boozy, rummy nose, with some dark fruit. On the sip, its's reasonably sweet - fruity and malty, with a dash of oak and booze - but still pretty easy drinking for the size. Has a sightly creamy texture with softish carbonation. Hope are really consistent and this is a really solid, if relatively subtle, BA impy.

Can. 5% ABV. Dark brown with less than a coat of beige head. Aroma of caramel syrup, mocha, grass. 6+ But it's not too sweet and the grassy and slightly spicy bitterness is enough to make the beer fat rather than cloying. Caramel note is still quite prominent. Aroma is unpromising rather than not good. A very well balanced drop.

On tap at Harts Pub. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has grass and bread with sweet grains and a bit of resin underlying. Flavor starts with grass and grains but has a bit of citrus in the finish.
