Description
Hope Brewery opened in 2014, and kicked off their range with a whole lot of hoppy ales, distinctively recognisable by their black cans and amp design - a homage to Hope's love of music. Since then they've been satisfying a desire for new beers and new styles including NEIPAs, sours, trophy-winning stouts and even Australia's strongest IPA.

From a 375ml can on 4/9/2022. Pours a clear medium golden with barely any head. Has a light mango nose. The mango is much more pronounced on the sip, and quite sip, but balanced our really well by the puckering tartness at the back. Full bodied with average carbonation. Impressive, like many of the beers in this particular series.

375ml can from Copper & Oak. Clear very pale yellow colour, short-lived fizzy white bubbly head and aroma of passionfruit, apple. Taste is sweet, apple, floral, passionfruit, citric, tart. Medium bodied, light carbonation, lingering sweet passionfruit finish. OK.

Can. Clear light brown with a cm of dense cream head that lasts OK and laces well. Aroma of toast, dried and some stewed fruit. Pleasantly creamy texture. Sweetish with toast and some biscuit, dried fruit, spices. But then, jarring lemony hops. They don't work at all. Going so well - not too heavy, no overt alcohol.

Can. Slightly hazy yellowish orange. A few white bubbles are gone as it pours. 3- Intense passionfruit aroma - reduced pulpy sweetness, heaps of acidity. Thinnish. Really quite acidic but in keeping with the fruit and it doesn't overwhelm - getting close though. OK but sour is not a competition.

From a 375ml can on 29/1/2022. Pours a fairly clear deep golden with a small head. The nose is dominated by candied orange. Incredibly intense on the sip - super sweet orange met by a super sharp, acidic tongue coating tartness. The mouthfeel is syrupy, the carbonation softish. Straight forward, very bold and quite impressive, but by no means a quaffer.

From a 16/1/2022. Pours a slightly opaque pink/red with virtually no head. Has a light raspberry cordial aroma. Tastes strongly of raspberry with a nice sweet sour balance. Full bodied with average. Straight forward but bold and very nicely done.

From a 375ml can on 6/1/2021. Pours an opaque light golden with a small, disappearing head. Has a big and pleasant pineapple/tropical aroma. Same goes for the taste - lots of big pineapple sweetness which is nicely balanced by a strong, very tart finish with a slick and thick texture, and modest carbonation. Another quite impressive and drinkable big sour from Hope.
