Mmmm. Love me some beaver. Brown and beige in the glass. Caramel and chocolate coffee nose. Roasted coffee, caramel butterscotch taste with a nice smooth balance. Quite good. I haven’t had too many better brown ales. Rated 10/30/08

Very complex "lager." Orange amber pour. Pilsnerish nose. The taste is in three distinct stages: Initial peppermint spice followed by bitter hops, orange peel and barley and an extremely long sour mash malty finish. This is one you’ll either love or hate.

Bomber (finally). It only took me two years to track this down. You’d think with the brewery just 45 minutes or so from my front door it wouldn’t be that hard... wrong. Limited by PA’s arcane beer laws, Voodoo can only sell cases in most establishments, and like I’m going to spend $85 on a case of something I’ve never tried. Anyhow, whining aside, I was happy to finally find a single for $7.49. Pours a thin, yet dark brown with a big head that slowly rises up and forms into a tan foam of about two or three fingers. Aromas are interesting... coffee and chocolate, for sure, but there seems to be a bit of whiff of pine, too. Flavor is big and bold, with lots of ABV warming the throat and belly. Leather, milk chocolate and a little coffee, vanilla and a touch of dark fruit and then the wood takes over right before a fairly hoppy finish kicks in. The resiny hops accompany the alcoholic warmth in the finish, which is a fairly nice way to end things. Maybe just a little thin, but very nice, nonetheless.

Bottle that I finally got around to rating. Body is a fairly dark ruby brown... very striking. Head is pretty minimal, just a film of tan with a few big bubbles floating around after a half minute or so, but leaves a bit of a film on the side of the glass. Aromas are interesting... a big earth and nut presence with a little bit of stale coffee and leather. The coffee and earth dominate the flavor as well... almost a smokey peatiness to it that is quite unexpected (I’m not entirely sure what I expected to find, but it wasn’t this.) Pretty good stuff.

1-2-10--bomber--pours a cloudy light copper--sweet aroma --mild spicy yeast in the flavor--a little hop bite in the finish--sweet fresh yeast smells--some honey scattered by human bees--nothing special , but quite tasty--alcohol well hidden

Bottle (12 oz, finally from Voodoo). This beer has a hazy light orange appearance with a little bit of a head (mostly bubbles floating around on the surface by the time I sit down to write). Aromas aren’t very compelling... kind of a mix of a very faint garbage smell with a little bit of honey and dough with a kiss of citrus. Flavor is very grainy with a little bit of grassy citrus and honey. Kind of chalky/gritty/grainy on the palate, and finish is a little on the sweet yet bitter side. I’m a little sad that this isn’t a more intriguing beer. I had held out some pretty big hopes for Voodoo based on the prices they were hoping to get for their bombers of the stuff.

Bottle. Poured a clear gold with a slight off-white head. Aroma has an awkward note of tofu, grains and fruits. Flavor has notes of cherry, and raspberries, with a bit of an awkward tartness, seaweed flavor and medicinal qualities. Definitely misses the mark for me

Bottle: Near black color with a finger of creamy brown head. Aroma is heavy with roasted malts, espresso, and molasses. Flavor is espresso, molasses, dark fruits, light bittersweet cocoa, and ends in a charred-wood smokey tail.

Bottle Pours out a dark brown almost black topped with a small tan ring. Aroma was of light bourbon along with some burnt roast. Taste was more of the bourbon and the burnt malt. A little sugar sweetness and more of the bourbon. Thanks ditmier for sharing.
