Description
Brasserie de Silly NV is still family-owned and is now in the hands of the sixth generation of the same family. The company is managed by cousins, Lionel and Bertrand Van der Haegen. Bertrand is responsible for production and Lionel looks after sales. Their parents, brothers Jean-Paul and Didier Van der Haegen are still active Board members. Brasserie de Silly has seen steady growth thanks to export sales and its quality image. Production in 2008 was 1,000,000 litres, but in 2018, 2,500,000 litres are expected to flow out of the tanks. Sales are on the up and up. Belgian beers produced in a traditional way are increasingly popular around the globe.

On tap at Gulden Draak Bierhaus in Prague. Pours murky amber with a light beige head. Plenty of dried berries and some caramel on the nose. Flavour has dried berries, esters. The whole thing comes off quite medicinal despite it's deteriorating effect on my liver. I don't think Belgian yeast belongs in a scotch ale.

Very thick-set, cream-coloured head, stable, over veiled red-brown beer. Booze, vanilla, sweet grapes, young oak. Sweet taste. Sweet cookies, human sweat, again some vanilla/young oak. Quite sweet-sticky-viscous, alleviated by the present carbonation. More than medium bodied. Too sweet. I wonder if the vanilla really got from used barrels, at that, but all points in that direction. Txs to Stef!

330ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Late straw coloured body with a slight haze, fair white head, upper part lacing on the glass. Moderately aromas of yeast and grassy hops. Yeasty fruitiness up front to the taste character joined by moments of oily hops and cereal malts. Yeast fruity ending, lightly spiced. Satisfying with our Yonas pizza. (Tromsø, 19.04.2025).
