Description
Brasserie de Silly NV is still family-owned and is now in the hands of the sixth generation of the same family. The company is managed by cousins, Lionel and Bertrand Van der Haegen. Bertrand is responsible for production and Lionel looks after sales. Their parents, brothers Jean-Paul and Didier Van der Haegen are still active Board members. Brasserie de Silly has seen steady growth thanks to export sales and its quality image. Production in 2008 was 1,000,000 litres, but in 2018, 2,500,000 litres are expected to flow out of the tanks. Sales are on the up and up. Belgian beers produced in a traditional way are increasingly popular around the globe.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dull ruby color with moderate head that settles quickly. Aromas of sugary cherries and cherry cola. Flavors of sugary cherries, a bit of chalk and some malts. Very sweet. I doubt the base is a lambic so not truly a “Kriek” in my mind, but correctly categorized as a fruit beer.

330 ml bottle. Pours a dull amber with light head. Aromas of banana, fruity esters, candied citrus, maybe some coriander and soft toasted malts. Flavors of toasted marshmallows, bitter citrus, creamy banana and more soft toasted malts. Interesting though flavors are a bit at odds.

On tap. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a small, foamy, long lasting, white head that laces nicely. Mild aroma of bready wheat, lemon and floral hops. Sweet flavour of bready wheat, orange peel, lemon, coriander, yeast and floral hops in a dry, mild bitter finish. Light body with a watery texture and average carbonation. Refreshing and enjoyable.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 8.0%. Dark red colour, pale and huge pink head. Aroma of sour cherries, cherry kernels and marzipan. Sweet flavour with the same elements, also distinct bittering hops, wormwood-like in the aftertaste. .

Med bod, med-light carbo. Med-high sweetness, med-light bitter. Lots of fruitiness, estery, overripe, lots of red apples. Med-light caramelly. Low to no saisony character. Average amber ale and a really poor saison.

330ml bottle. Pours a cloudy orange amber with a medium, foamy, long lasting, beige head that leaves soapy curtains of lace. Aroma of bready caramel malt, red apple skin, Belgian yeast and herbal hops. Sweet flavour of bready caramel malt, candi sugar, plum, Belgian yeast and spicy hops in a dry, mild bitter, warming booze finish. Full body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. A little sweet and boozy, but still decent.
