Nice pale copper coloured body with a light amber tint and a thin fast-dying white head. Aroma of fresh hops, nice malt and a mellow sweetness. Medium-bodied; Strong taste of fresher hops up front fading to a more strong malt taste and ending a bit stale with cardboard flavours most noticeable. Aftertaste shows the malt and a bit of metallic tastes throughout, not the most pleasing. Overall, a better beer than most considering the producer and a good cause for the beer - however, they could have made a lot more money with this beer if it were any good. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia by my brother-in-law on 25-December-2005.

Hazy amber with medium white head. Sweet yeasty aroma with fruity and sourish notes. Sweet flavor with toasted malt, caramel, ripe fruits and yeasty notes. Ends sweet with warming alcohol.

Bottle at Sunset Grill, fall 2008. Fairly true strawberry nose boasts of more fruit than beer, though it dosent seem candyish or cloying and there does seem to be some malt crispness on the end. Not any flaws that I can detect and a pretty high strength of aroma. Shockingly reserved in fruit sweetness, with seemingly most of the sugars fermented out. You even get some light pale malt graininess and a lager yeast crispness on the finish. No wateriness, medium-light bodied with no alcohol or flaws perceivable. How this brewery is so hit or miss is beyond me.

On tap at Sunset Grill on multiple occasions. A very ruddy, amber-orange colored beer, with a small white head. Clear. A shot of cascade-like hoppiness is felt first in the nose, but is quickly followed and drowned out by a wallop of sweet, fat, sticky malts that are much to caramelly and syrupy for me. The flavor is surprisingly a bit more dry and allows more hoppiness, or really just mostly bitterness, but its somewhat more balanced in the flavor than in the aroma. That is, until the beer begins to warm, when toffee, caramel and unfermented sugars blast through and make an utter mess of the beer. Sharp, brutal hops and alcohol dominate the sugary finish. Medium bodied. No thanks.

Draught at Sunset Grill, early 2008. Wasnt sure what this was at the time of drinking it, but thought it was some Belgian Strong Golden, though I suppose a heller doppel bock is reasonable. It says fermented to a dry finish, and while I wont call it overly dry, by any means, its not obnoxiously sweet and the alcohol isnt overbearing. Warming allowed for some DMS like flavors and the hops never really made an appearance, but for some floral, lightly dusty notes upon opening. Not offensive, though Im rating it more of a Belgian ale than a doppel bock, which it dosent really resemble in the least bit.

Bottle. Poured red amber with thick lasting white head. Sweet aroma of malt and caramel. Rather thin flavour, more caramel and malt. Thin finish with a bit of pepper.

12 oz. bottle. Okay. My brief sojourns through the south and southwest have shown me many pecan producers trying to use up excess production: BBQ smoking wood, mulch, etc. Now this. Well. Pours slightly darker than amber, and a little hazy. A little too much oil to sustain many bubbles. Smell malty, with a backing of light hardwood indeed. Taste does indeed have a little nuttiness. I keep trying not to bring up more “woody” descriptions, but they’re there nonetheless. An extra bit of spiciness and even nut butter. I am straining to quantify the description, but this an “odd ingredient” beer that makes good use of its oddity instead of going for shock value.

on tap-pours a light brown head and black color. Aroma is rich dark malt-molasses/woody/anise. Taste is dark malt-molasses/chocolate/woody/anise, some earthy hops. Mild carbonation.
