Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.

We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.

We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

Orange, lemon, coriander, wheat malt, and straw aroma. Hazy golden yellow with large off-white head and mild effervescence. Moderately sweet orange, lemon, coriander, clove, wheat malt, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Okay body.

From a cheap bottle this stuff pours really dark, almost black with a big foamy tan head. Nose is boozy sweet. First taste is definitely a big sweet pastry stout. As usual, with these stouts, its kindah cloying. Very little, but there is some co2 in there. Yea, these pastry stout things are difficult to take, and so is this. There is a warming sensation going down the throat into the tummy with each swig. Sweet nasty almost artificial sweetness middle. To say there is french toast attributes in there, perhaps is a little misleading. I can't really pick out any of the maple, cinnamon, vanilla nor nutmeg in this. Is just another one of those unbalanced over the top big alky sweet ass pastry bombs. Never judge a beer by its cover, heheh. Blah. What ever happened to good old plain pale beer? Man, I really dig stouts, but these variations almost turn my stomach.

A reddish yellow beer a head is quite small and blond. Aroma has raspberries and wheat malts. Taste has raspberries and wheat, hint of sourness. Medium bodied. I'm not convinced, the balance is not there.

Pour is a hazy amber with a large foamy white head. Aroma is banana and clove with some creamy vanilla. Flavor is the same banana and clove but a bit more coriander shows up. They call this a wit but this could easily be a hefe as well. I have no problems with this as it's a tasty wheat beer.
