Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.

We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.

We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

Juicy, yes, but also with an underlying bubblegum sweetness that seems strong for the ABV, and a dry, floral finish not quite meshing with the front end. What I expected from an Abita hazy IPA.

Maple syrup, bready chocolate malt, and straw aroma. Dark brown with tan head. Very sweet maple syrup, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter grass/straw flavor. Okay body.

Cheap, fizzy, overly sweet, and remarkably similar to a cola. Tastes like everything comes from a white bucket labeled “French toast flavoring”. Like a bullshit cousin to Founders French Toast Bastard. Avoid.

On tap at Abita, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out sweet lactose and a touch of cocoa. Flavour is sweet, with plenty of lactose and light cocoa. Simple and clean, definitely on the sweet (but not cloying) side. Lacks a pronounced malt bill but is otherwise drinkable. Meh.

On tap at Abita, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out citrus hops, some earthiness and bready malt. Flavour is citrusy, with plenty of citrus hops, a touch of pine, and bready malt. A bit dusty in the hop department but otherwise has good clarity and hop expression. Solid.

On tap at Abita, pours a clear golden, no head. Aroma is laid back, with a tiny hint of strawberry but not much else. Flavour is pretty vile, with a very artificial strawberry ice tea character. I don't know or care if this is real strawberry; this is pretty vile.

On tap at Abita, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out toasted malt and some gentle nuttiness. Flavour is dry, with toasted nuts, bready malt and a hint of sweet caramel. Clean and drinkable, but a pretty standard brown ale.

12 ounce bottle from Woodman's Appleton, 12/5/22. Hazy yellow, medium off-white head, average retention. Aroma of banana and bubblegum. Taste is banana, tropical fruit, bubblegum. Pretty close to the name brand gum. Interesting.
