Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.

We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.

We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

12oz bottle. They kind of nail the chocolate cake flavor, fudgy, chocolate icing tone. At it isn't oppressively sweet like some of the double digit stuff. Not really that desirable of a style for me, but it turned out pretty well. OK, but I wouldn't seek it out or buy it again.

12 ounce can from Tadychs Iron Mountain, 7/2/21. Hazy pale orange, large foamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of floral hops, grapefruit, pale malt. Taste is pineapple, mango, dandelion, tangerine, kaffir lime. Juicy, low bitterness. Quite fascinating. Unusual in a good way.

Just a sweet-ass chocolate cake stout. No more, no less. Lots of chocolate and lactose, and that’s it. If it’s your thing, fine. It’s not mine.

12 ounce bottle from Niemuth's, 5/7/21. Near black, medium tan head, good retention. Aroma of intense chocolate and not much else. Taste is cocoa, dark fruits. Chocolate verges on overwhelming. Overall okay but could use both complexity and balance. 18000th rating!

Very herbal and bright, offering up modest notes of citrus and tropical fruit, but also laced with resin and an unexpected floral streak. Finishes yeasty and estery, almost Belgian-ish. Weird pint.
