Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.
We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.
We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

On tap pours out golden topped with a white head. Nose is big sweet strawberry jam some toast. Taste is more of the nice sweet jammy strawberry toast and a touch of peanut butter.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine. Pours a pitch black color with a large tan head with mahogany highlights and great retention. Good lacing. Sweet milk chocolate aroma. Likewise, the flavor is creamy milk chocolate, roasted malt, and light cinnamon and spices in the finish. Medium body and a creamy mouthfeel. A nice sweet stout with just enough spices to make it more interesting. Both the 6.8% ABV and the 35 IBUs are well hidden. Really good and very repeatable.

This 12 oz bottle came from a Black Friday visit to a Total Wine in Ft. Worth. I have the brew cooled off and am ready to pour into my New Belgium globe glass. The view is a semi-opaque, medium yellow body with the barest of a white skim. Steady carbonation. I get a scent of fruit and light pine, nothing all that exciting. But the drink is an improvement on that. Pineapple, some grapefruit, white bread and a small hoppiness. A full sensation also, I like that. Certainly a beer worth locating again.

Pours a reddish amber with a massive tan head. Aroma of nutty, spiced malt. Taste has sweet malt, caramel, mild molasses. Palate is somewhat grainy, has some more pleasant nutty elements on the nose. Good, if sweet.

Nice hop flavor. Sweet and enjoyable. Their pilsner is just as good or better than it was 35 years ago. Congrats to Abita for an awesome beer!
