Description
The Abita Brewing Company is nestled in the piney woods 30 miles north of New Orleans. In its first year, the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. We had no idea what we started. Customers loved our beer! By 1994, we outgrew the original site (now our 100-seat brew pub) and moved up the road to a larger facility to keep up with demand.

We brew more than 125,000 barrels of beer and 13,500 barrels of soda of in our state-of-the-art brewing facility. Our lagers and ales are brewed in small batches, hand-crafted by a team of dedicated workers with only the highest ideals of quality. This pride, along with our brewing process, is what creates our great brews.

We are privately owned and operated by local shareholders, many who have been with us since day one.

12oz bottle. Deep brown-black body, steady beige head. Pretty good Christmas Stout type creature. The spices are restrained and well incorporated. Sure, I'd believe it was a dark pumpkin beer if I tasted it blind. Pleasant cocoa nib tone and vanilla smooth it out in a pastry way, but a little more restrained than an Imperial adjunct bomb. Good enough as it is, would have loved it without the cinnamon and nutmeg even more.

Very copper and bronze tinted body with a thinnish off-white and tan head that only shows a single centimetre tall after a few seconds. Aroma of very funky lime, yeast, bread and soured malts with a good deal of alcohol noticeable and a dash of dry herbal notes as well. Medium to almost Full-bodied; Strong limey and almost juniper berry (gin) flavours show at first with a good dose of malts that add to the body and show some bready/yeast notes towards the end, but the soured, tart lime and fruity flavours are easily the strongest here throughout. Aftertaste is more full-bodied than I expected with a deep malt profile that shows as well as the yeast that seems to add to the chew of this one, and the flavours range from slightly tart lemons to full on deep soured lime notes, all with some moderate alcohol and a deep malt backbone throughout this. Overall, a rather strong and perhaps to chewy, malty and yeasty profile that really hits when all the soured, tart lime notes are added, but at least there is a good deal of flavours here. I sampled this twelve ounce pour on draught at Kloby's Smokehouse in Columbia, Maryland on 21-July-2018 for US$10,00 - quite expensive, as it usually is at this restaurant.

Slightly hazy copper and bronze coloured body with a very large, super soapy tan head,  at least seven centimetres tall that takes a long time to fade. Aroma of grass, funk, earth, citrus, lemon zest and a dash of pepper - quite strong, but also showing a lot of odd notes. Medium-bodied; Strong citrus notes dominate at first with a lot of funky malts and especially funky yeast flavours and finishing off with a vanilla like presence which makes it more like a creamsicle than anything else. Aftertaste shows some nice malts with a dash of grain and pepper bitterness and then showing the sweeter citrus and fructose elements. Overall, a nice and pungent IPA that shows more of a traditional East Coast IPA flavour and profile than anything 'New England', But it definitely has flavours and some relatively deep ones with a bit of pungency. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 19-May-2020 for US$2,49 sampled at my house here in Washington on 15-June-2020.

Bottle @ Fox and Hounds, Sønderborg. Pours nearly clear light copper brown with stable white head. Clear aroma of berries, with notes of yeast and touches of hops. Citric flavour of berries, with bitter notes of hops and sweetish estery touches. Bitter and acidic aftertaste with touches of yeast. Reasonable, but watery.

On tap at Dive 106. Pours straw brown. Strawberry, cereal, very clean finish. Medium body. Pretty clean and simplistic, but also not too sweet. Better than anticipated.

12 oz. can bought at Total Wine - Melbourne, FL. Pours a clear gold color with a white head and good retention. Spots of lacing. Active carbonation. I guess that's strawberry I smell. Tastes like old strawberries, diacetyl and semi-flat malt liquor with an unclean finish. Medium body. I'm just not a fan of strawberry beers. At least the 8.0% ABV is fairly hidden.
