Description
Renaissance brewing was established in 2005 when experienced brewers Andy Deuchars and Brian Thiel purchased the lease on the historic Grove Mill in Blenheim. Andy and Brian, both natives of Southern California, had one goal in mind - to produce stunning beers in a region more renowned for the excellence of its wines. We are committed to using local ingredients and are one of the pioneers of craft brewing in New Zealand.

Bottle thanks to Kenny. It pours deep brown with a small light tan head. The nose is roasty, toast, earth, pepper, light smoke and umami. The taste is smooth, roasty, cocoa, earth, light bitterness, umami, dirt, soft berry and dark fruits, cherry comes through towards the end.... Medium body and average carbonation. A lot of umami going on. OK.

Sampled at Craft Beer Rising 2014 - Brick Lane, London. Keg. Pours dark brown with a thick, tan froth for a head. The character is defined by heavily roasted malts, with ancillary notes of baking cocoa and ash. Medium bodied with fine carbonation and creamy texture. Rich dark malt finish with lasting char, burnt bread and bittersweet chocolate. Ballsy and rich.

Bottle: Cloudy, bubbly, orange-brown with a short tan head. Bread, spray paint, fruit scent. Aged apricot, breadheel, overripe peach flavour. Different....Rakau hops, I suppose. Grows sweeter and more wooden/earthy as it warms... Tropical+English vibe.....interesting...Kiwi hops are wonderfully distinct.
