Bottle from Brewery Creek. Has a dark brown colour. Not much head. The aroma has some rich fudgey character, a touch of treacle, and only a little bit of barrel influence. Has a fairly rich, tarry character with light barrel and just a touch of fruitiness. Finishes with a hit of alcohol and a slightly syrupy character. In the end I think it’s good, and there’s not a lot of this in BC, but it’s a fairly standard example of the type, maybe needing more richness or a little more of a charry, smoky element to kick it up a bit.

650 ml bottle. Pours a hazy yellow with light head. Aromas of lemonwax, honey, and banana peels. Flavors of lemon drops, white pepper, pears, and bitter orange rinds, with a nagging plastic-y note. Long bitter finish. Dunno.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with reddish hints and full head. Aromas of oily smoke and nutty dark fruit. Flavors of hickory smoke/ bacon, bitter nuts, and a bit of alcohol. Light to medium body with lots of fine carbonation. Quite nice - and smoked ain’t normally my thing.

375 ml bottle. Pours a very dark reddish brown with light tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, raisins, and light bourbon. Flavors of dark dry caramel, roasted malts, nuts, watered bourbon, light vanilla and oak. A little thin and alcoholic but avoids bourbon overkill. Good first batch.

2018-02-27, draught at the brewery, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Black color with short head retention. Good aroma of bourbon. The underlying Stout, is on the dry side and a bit thin, with metallic overtones in evidence, hence the bourbon, quite strong too, clashes a bit; the roasted character is also strong.
Overpriced for what it is.

Black color, with small head. Aroma with roasted malts, bread, dark chocolate, roasted nuts, light cardboard; mild but nice. Lean mouthfeel, with a very moderate residual sweetness; roasted malts flavor, some dark chocolate; quite British, since it's not sweet and it has a relatively strong flavor of black liquorice, a bit salty; the alcohol warms the mouth in a pleasant way; the barrel aging, and bourbon are not evident.
A very good beer, but the price tag (9.15$) is unreasonable (1 point less for this).

Draught at 12 Kings, Vancouver
Cloudy blond color. It’s one of the two American variations of wrong Saison, not the mellow fruity one, but the one loaded with vegetables off flavors; it has some spices and regular bitterness. Don’t expect matcha tea: it wouldn’t work in a beer, and it’s anyway too expensive.
Not totally bad, mostly annoying on many levels.

On tap at Moody Ales, pours a cloudy amber with a small white head. Nose brings out massive ginger notes - not much else. Flavour is along the same lines, with massive ginger notes. Very spicy and spritzer on the palate. Well-made for what it is, just not my thing.
