Description
In the beginning, in 2004, the Lupulus brewery was built to brew beers for the tavern next door. In 2007, the brewery decided to create a new beer, in kegs and in Champagne bottles.
The brewers wanted to offer a traditional beer with its own unique flavour, using modern equipment. The region where the brewery is based gave the brewers the inspiration they were looking for.
The brewery is housed in a magnificent old 19th century farm, a part of Ardennes heritage. The installation is based in the middle of surrounding green fields, beside a freshwater stream.
The historical record is sketchy, but we know that wolves populated the Ardennes landscape in olden times. Some say that these wolf-packs came from Slovenia, where the best hops in the world are cultivated...
True story? In any case, the wolf was behind the creation of a new beer: Lupulus. The name derives from the Latin name of the hop plant Humulus Lupulus, which means Small Humble Wolf.

Fles gekregen van Roelzie, geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een helder diep donkerbruin bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van gebrande mout en chocolade. De smaak is gebrand, moutig, caramel en chocolade.

Bottle from Geers. Hazy golden, thin, white head. Aroma of grass, unripe orange, corn, honey, bread crust, yeast. Taste has sweetish orange & plum in a grainy, honeyish, bit biscuity malt body, ending grassy hoppy, citrusy, dry thanks to bitter grain & straw notes. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. Perfectly acceptable Pils.

Cloudy blond beige beer, big creamy white head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: nice, very fruity, juicy, peaches, peach flavoured candy, nice stuff! MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty malty, grains, hay, hoppy, bitter, dry, a little yeasty. Aftertaste: bitter, dry, fruity, citrus, very malty, grains, a little dank, nice but not great. Well, at least itβs a bitter IPA.

10 April 2022. At 14de Brugs Bierfestival. Cheers to Anke & Pieter!
Hazy black, stable, frothy, tan head. Aroma of earth, walnut, mushroom, toast, prune. Taste has sweetish prune & fig; herbal, earthy & umami (mushroom) notes in a soft toasty malt body. Earthy hoppy finish with roasted coffee and some spices, dash of warming whisky-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, average carbonation. Bit too herbal and 'vegetably', probably befitting a BIPA more, but otherwise flavourful.
